Prince Andrew’s York Racecourse first patron


Britain's Prince Andrew has become the first patron of York Racecourse.
Lord Grimthorpe, the course's chairman has said on behalf of the York Race Committee and himself that they were "absolutely delighted" Andrew had agreed to support them and he believes with the help of the Duke of York they will be able to continue to "improve" one of the world's most advanced courses.
He told York Press: "He will be a wonderful ambassador for the racecourse and we hope, with his help, York will continue to improve as one of the world's leading racecourses."
The news comes as Prince Andrew was a guest at the racecourse in North Yorkshire to officially open the newly installed Weighing Room back in May part of a million-pound improvement project.
Andrew has a long history with the racecourse and when he was Yorkshire Regiment's Colonel-in-Chief the Prince took part in the homecoming for soldiers who came back from service in 2012, where he was invited to the Knavesmire for a ceremony.
Speaking at the homecoming event Andrew previously told guests what he thought is the "most significant" aspect of a soldier's duty.
He said: "The most significant thing I have noticed, for the very first time this is about what the soldier does and how the soldier has done it over a number of centuries."

Queen Elizabeth’s pigeons get £40,000 loft


Britain's Queen Elizabeth is planning to spend £40,000 on a new loft for her pigeons.
The old home for the birds at her Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England is being replaced with a luxury one, which has sliding doors, ceilings and windows to ensure the birds benefit from the sunshine.
Much like Buckingham Palace, the bird's house is in desperate need of renovation and is reportedly falling apart with rot.
West Norfolk Council have approved a new construction, which measures 75 feet by 12 feet, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
It will have 48 nesting boxes and will be fit for both the pigeons and the person in charge the upkeep of the loft itself.
A planning officer's report read: "The new loft will provide the estate with a modern, well-ventilated, easy-to-clean and spacious environment for both the loft manager and pigeons."
Queen Elizabeth has 200 birds, which she races and has won several competitions with.
She is also an official member of the Royal Racing Pigeon Association.
The manager of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, Stewart Wardrop told Mail on Sunday newspaper he believes it will cost £40,000.

Princess Anne gives Dockland Watersports royal approval


Britain's Princess Anne attended the 10th anniversary of the Royal Yachting Association's OnBoard programme.
The Princess Royal - who is the president of the RYA - was greeted by 80 children who showed off their sailing and kayaking skills while she visited Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre at London Docklands, UK.
RYA regional development manager Steve Mitchell said it was a great opportunity for Princess Anne the "fantastic" work that goes on in helping children who have never sailed before get the chance to experience the sport.
He said: "Today's activities are part of a the summer schedule at DSWC. Nearly 100 youngsters will experience sailing for the first time during this week's sailing programme.
"It's been a great day, and good for Her Royal Highness to see all the fantastic work that's going on here. DSWC was one of the first wave of RYA OnBoard centres and through its work with schools, youth clubs and community groups thousands of youngsters have had the opportunity to go sailing for the first time and continue their sailing after school or at weekends. "
The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth spoke to the groups of children before and after their sailing and kayaking display on Millwall Outer Dock and afterwards, Anne put an official plaque on the wall to commemorate the royal visit.

Zara Phillips and daughter Mia attend Festival of British Eventing


Zara Phillips and daughter Mia Tindall were the centre of attention at Gatcombe Park's Festival of British Eventing.
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II's great-grandaughter enjoyed a day out with her mother at the equestrian festival at the Gloucestershire residence of Zara's mother Britain's Princess Anne over the weekend.
The previous day (08.08.15) Zara and Mia were joined by Zara's sister-in-law Autumn Phillips. and her two daughters and Queen Elizabeth's youngest son Prince Edward and his 11-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor.
Onlookers watched on as 34-year-old Equestrian Olympic medallist held her daughter in her arms, as she ate a healthy snack, an apple oblivious of the attention they were receiving.
Zara had previously said how she hopes Mia will grow to love sport as it was always in her's and her former Rugby captain husband Mike Tindall's lives.
She previously told British HELLO! magazine: "We have always had sport in our lives and through our childhood. I think that really is important in every child's life to have that opportunity. I think we have got it off our parents and hopefully we can pass that on to Mia."
While Mike, 36, added: "Mia will be whatever she wants to be, we will support that."

Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate for rent


Britain's Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham Estate is available to rent.
The country retreat of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in Norfolk, England now has two properties available to rent by the general public and are listed on the official website for the estate.
The Garden House can be rented for £625 a week and looks out over the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's home.
The property, which was previously owned by the head gardener boasts three twin bedrooms, one double bedroom, two bathrooms, a sitting room, a dining room, a kitchen, and a coatroom.
And The Granary has three bedrooms with ensuites and a kitchen/dining room.
The property was originally a barn and was turned into living quarters.
As it is smaller than The Garden House the rents is slightly less at £600 per week.
Sandringham was the location for the christening photos of Prince George and Princess Charlotte and is often visited by royalty.
The first official portrait of George with his father William by Mario Testino was taken on the day after his three-month-old sister, Princess Charlotte's christening on July 5 on the grounds.
The estate has been passed down through four generations of the monarch and King George V once said: "Dear old Sandringham, the place I love better than anywhere in the world."

Prince WIlliam to support Mental Health sufferers


Britain's Prince William wants to focus on helping mental health suffers when he finishes his two years at East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The heir to the throne has already been on secret visits to see young people suffering from mental health related issues to see how he can assist and at this stage it is just "exploratory" for the Duke of Cambridge.
A royal aide said: "It is an area which the Duke is starting to explore as to whether he can help in any way in that sector, while recognising that there are an awful lot of people doing a lot of great work around it already. So it is quite exploratory at the moment."
A key area William thinks he will be able to help with is dealing with grief as he lost his own mother Princess Diana when he was just 15.
A source previously told the Sunday Times newspaper: "When he spends time with them he finds that, partly based on his own experiences, he is able to connect deeply with them and help have a positive impact."
Britain's Catherine Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry are also strong supporters of charities helping those suffering from depression and other related ailments.
A source told PEOPLE magazine: "Mental well-being is an area which both the Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry are interested in."
The 33-year-old Princess is a strong supporter of children's mental health and is a patron of Place2Be - a provider of emotional support for school children.

Thailand’s King recovering from water on brain


Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej is resting after suffering from excess fluid on the brain and a chest infection.
Thailand's Royal Household Bureau announced on Monday (10.08.15) that the 87-year-old is convalescing after a recent X-ray showed that his inflamed chest was no longer a problem and his heartbeat was as it should be.
A statement by the palace read: "Examinations showed fluid in the brain had increased and a team of physicians asked permission to increase fluid drainage gradually of the brain and watch symptoms closely.
"An x-ray of the royal brain on August 5 showed water levels had decreased to close to the original volume."
King Bhumibol - who is the longest serving monarch in the world - had been staying in hospital since May and was allowed out on May 10 but was admitted a few weeks later on May 31, according to the BBC.
The King is said to have been given medicines to clear the mucus in his chest and is now having physical therapy.
While, the King of Thailand has no duties he is seen as a symbol of unity for the country because he has ruled since 1946, and so his health and well-being is closely monitored.
Bhumibol was first admitted in October of last year where he had his gallbladder removed at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital.

Prince Charles and Diana’s unseen wedding photos


Britain's Princess Diana and Prince Charles' unseen wedding photos are being auctioned in America.
Official royal photographer Lord Patrick Lichfield took the photographs for their wedding reception in July 1981 at Buckingham Palace, after the wedding ceremony at St Paul's Catherdral and now 14 images are being sold offering a glimpse inside one of history's biggest weddings.
The photographic memoirs have been put on sale in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S. by a British woman who worked as the assistant of Lord Lichfield, according to the Daily Express newspaper.
The items come with a letter of provenance, which is proof of the authenticity of the images.
Lord Lichfield wrote: "I was the photographic assistant to Lord Patrick Lichfield...the only photographer allowed to take informal photographs of the royal family and their guests when they returned to Buckingham Palace...for the wedding reception."
The photos still have stickers on them saying they are copyrighted to Lichfield who died in November 2005.
They include seven colour seven by five and seven glossy 10 by eight prints in black and white.
Most of them are of Diana in her wedding gown designed by British designer's David and Elizabeth Emanuel.
However, there are more rare uncandid citings of Britain's Queen Mother, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew.
And the most memorable is of Charles and Diana on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
It's expected they will sell for at least £11,000.
