Cycle lane to open outside Buckingham Palace

A new cycle highway could be opened outside Buckingham Palace, the London home of Britain's Queen Elizabeth.
It's been confirmed a two-way segregated track could be created at Spur Road, in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial at the palace, with bollards that could be taken down if necessary.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "The new east-west superhighway will be a treasured part of our new network, running through the heart of the capital and past the front door of some of our most loved landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace."
If successful, the plan could be fully implemented by summer 2016.
Meanwhile, it was announced earlier this week that the palace is to host a new photographic exhibition that will open on the day Britain's Queen Elizabeth celebrates becoming the nation's longest-reigning monarch.
The exhibition, which will be known as Long To Reign Over Us, will also be staged at Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse on September 9th.
It will feature official portraits and images of the Queen from 1952 to the present day, in addition to previously seen informal photographs of the monarch and her family.

The Crown re-enacts Queen Elizabeth’s wedding

The marriage of Britain's Queen Elizabeth has been re-enacted for an episode of 'The Crown'.
The real-life event took place in November 1947, when the Queen tied the knot with Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey in London, and a similar scene was watched by passers-by as filming continued for the new Netflix show.
Actress Claire Foy, who plays the central role in the new series, was seen wearing a replica of the Queen's white satin wedding gown and a matching veil.
The 31-year-old actress also wore a glittering tiara, as well as a strand of pearls.
Former 'Doctor Who' actor Matt Smith, who plays her husband Prince Philip, was also seen on the set of the new series, which is said to represent a £100 million investment for the popular streaming service.
'The Crown' is actually the most expensive drama ever made by the US company and also its first to be made in the UK, covering 60 episodes over six series.
The show will follow the Queen's life from her wedding in 1947 through to the present day, recalling some historic moments along the way.

Royals given permission to build new tennis court

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been given permission to build a new tennis court at their home.
The royals, both 33, are set to spend as much as £60,000 on their new court at Amner Hall in Norfolk, where they have made their family home.
They plan to replace an older court that had fallen into disrepair, hoping the move will improve the view from their ten-bedroom property.
Once the changes are complete, the old court will become part of the back garden.
A design statement with the planning application said: "The current tennis court needs extensive work to resurface and we have been advised that to resurface we need to remove all the existing court and start again.
"In doing so the landscape designer has recommended that the court is moved away from current position to the proposed position which involves taking a very small area of Parkland to provide sufficient space around the court.
"Moving the court further away from the Hall improves the views from the Hall and locates the court largely in an area of undeveloped garden."

Prince Charles ‘set to buy ancient estate’

Britain's Prince Charles is reportedly set to acquire one of the UK's most ancient estates, Port Eliot in Cornwall.
The estate is home to one of most well-known annual arts festivals and is also said to be among the oldest continually inhabited houses in the country.
The purchase has, however, proven to be contentious in some quarters, with its current owners having become embroiled in an internal dispute about its future, the Daily Beast reports.
As well as being home to the festival, Port Eliot also boasts its own church, Iron Age fort, and a train station, in addition to a viaduct and boat house.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, it was reported Prince Charles wants to be financially independent of the state.
The future king would apparently like to end the custom whereby monarchs sign over Crown Estate earnings to the government in exchange for a Sovereign Grant.
Under the approach Charles is said to advocate, he could independently cover most royal costs, especially if he manages to slim down the monarchy.
A source added: "William wants to slim it even more."

Prince Harry ‘wants to keep Jenna Coleman romance quiet’

Britain's Prince Harry is reportedly trying to keep his burgeoning romance with Jenna Coleman under wraps.
The 30-year-old prince, who's been linked to the 'Doctor Who' actress over the last few months, is discouraging his friends from discussing their relationship, hoping it will progress "in secret".
A source shared: "Although the British public adores her and she would make a wonderful princess, Harry told his aides not to talk about the relationship with anyone, so [the relationship] could develop in secret."
Prince Harry is also conscious of the fact that not everyone connected to the royal family may be willing to embrace Jenna with open arms.
The insider told Life & Style Weekly: "Jenna has already been topless on television.
"She was also in a sex scene and there are plenty of risqué viral videos of her online."
Earlier this month, it was claimed Prince Harry had been texting the 29-year-old actress since they'd met at a polo party earlier this year.
A source said: "Harry must be keen on Jenna to be staying in touch with her, despite all his tireless charity work.
"They seem to really get along so a proper date could be on the cards when he returns."

Prince Albert wants Vin Diesel to play him in movie

Prince Albert of Monaco would like Vin Diesel to play him in a movie.
The 57-year-old royal, who's married to the former South African Olympic swimmer Princess Charlene, is set to have a movie made about his life and has suggested the Hollywood superstar as his ideal candidate.
Looking forward to the film, titled 'Royal Ice', Prince Albert admitted he hadn't "really given that much thought" to who might play the role, "though I hope it would be someone reasonably athletic".
He told PEOPLE: "I really have no preference, maybe Vin Diesel or someone else who is slightly balding?"
'Royal Ice' will tell the story of how the prince led a bobsleigh team to the Olympics and has already been likened to the comedy classic 'Cool Runnings'.
The prince, however, has been quick to downplay the obvious comparison, and also insisted that the movie was not his idea.
He said: "We're not trying to make 'Cool Runnings', which is an excellent film."
'Royal Ice' is set to be released in 2018, which will mark the 30th anniversary of the team's first Olympic appearance.

Countess of Wessex to make historic visit

Britain's Countess of Wessex is set to make the first royal visit to Shaftesbury in Dorset in five centuries.
The 50-year-old royal is to visit the Trinity centre - a charitable trust - on Wednesday, September 23rd, when she will hear about efforts to refurbish the centre and make it available for use by the whole community, the Bournemouth Echo reports.
What's more, the countess will meet with representatives of the various groups which already use the centre, including Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.
Allied to this, the wife of Prince Edward will be given a tour of the 19th century building and learn about the town's Snowdrop Festival from Pam Cruickshank, its founder.
Meanwhile, the countess admitted last year that she took inspiration from Britain's Queen Elizabeth and they way she deals with her royal duties.
She said: "It doesn't matter how tired you are - carry on.
"In the early days, I used to rush around as quickly as I could, but when you observe the Queen, she does things in such a measured way, and I hope I've learnt to try not to bounce into the room, but do things in a slightly more elegant way.
"The art of talking meaningfully is one that has to be learnt.
"It's hard to make people feel that the conversation you've had with them was worthwhile, but the Queen is very good at that - she makes everybody feel very special."

Queen Elizabeth focus of record-breaking TV show

Britain's Queen Elizabeth is the subject of a record-breaking television show.
The 89-year-old monarch, who's preparing to celebrate becoming the longest-reigning queen in British history, is the focal point of a new Netflix programme that's cost £100 million to make.
'The Crown' is, in fact, the most expensive drama ever made by the US streaming service and also its first to be made in the UK, spanning 60 episodes over six series.
The series will follow the Queen's life from her wedding in 1947 through to the present day.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed earlier this week that a new photographic exhibition is to open on the day Queen Elizabeth celebrates becoming the nation's longest-reigning monarch.

The show will also include previously seen informal photographs of the monarch and her family.

Prince Harry-backed charity walk set to begin

A charity walk supported by Britain's Prince Harry is set to start this weekend.
The 30-year-old prince is a notable advocate of the Walking With The Wounded, a 1,000-mile journey that will take 72 days to complete and will see veterans finish at Buckingham Palace on November 1st.
Edward Parker, co-founder and CEO of Walking With The Wounded, said: "Walking over 1,000 miles is no mean feat. Yet again, we will be able to demonstrate that despite injuries these men and women look to their future with great determination and courage.
"We are also very excited about walking amongst the communities who have been so supportive of the military and Walking With The Wounded and we look forward to them coming out to support the team on their journey."
Meanwhile, it was announced earlier this week that Prince Harry is to open a new centre to help some of the most vulnerable children in Africa.
The prince will launch the Mamohato Children's Centre in Lesotho in December, which will provide a new base for Sentebale, the charity he founded in 2006.
