Prince Harry to attend Rugby World Cup opening ceremony

Britain's Prince Harry is to attend the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup in Twickenham on Friday (18.09.15).
The 31-year-old royal, who is the vice-president of the England Rugby Football Union (RFU), will watch the show unfold with his brother and sister-in-law the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the stadium in London.
Prior to the ceremony, the flame-haired hunk will pay a visit to the players at Durbar Court in London along with the Prime Minister David Cameron and former England international, Jason Leonard on Thursday night (17.09.15).
He will then watch the first match, England vs. Fiji kick off before attending more rugby events over the next month.
In June, the Prince marked the start of the 100-day countdown to the 2015 Rugby World Cup alongside sporting stars such as Jonny Wilkinson and Will Greenwood by launching a trophy tour at Twickenham stadium.
He said at the time: "This is a very exciting day - it is 100 days until the start of the Rugby World Cup.
"We are here today to send the Webb Ellis Cup around the country, giving rugby fans across the country the chance to play their part in the run up to the tournament."
Prince Harry made his speech in front of the few hundred fans who had assembled at the stadium while it was broadcast to crowds gathered in London's Piccadilly Circus.

Queen thanks young girl for birthday invitation

A young girl who invited Britain's Queen Elizabeth to her 7th birthday party has received a letter from the monarch thanking her for her "kind thought."
Melissa Poll, six, wrote to Her Majesty asking her if she'd like to join her in celebrating her birthday on September 27, 2015 after she was unable to visit Buckingham Palace in London with her grandmother due to a tube strike.
Days later, the schoolgirl, from Manchester, received a letter on behalf of the 89-year-old monarch stating she was unfortunately unable to attend her birthday party but hoped Melissa would be able to visit the Palace again next year.
The letter, penned by Her Majesty's lady-in-waiting, read: "The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter in which you tell Her Majesty about your disappointment at not being able to tour the State Apartments at Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty was sorry to hear that you and your grandmother tried twice to see inside the palace and that, for various reasons, you were unlucky."
It continued: "Although unable to come to your birthday party, the Queen greatly appreciated your kind thought for her, and I hope you have a lovely time with your family and friends on September 27.
"I am to thank you too for your kind thought in writing about the forthcoming splendid milestone in Her Majesty's reign."
Melissa told the Manchester Evening News she was "delighted" with the response, while her grandmother Denise was disappointed the Queen - who became the longest reigning monarch last week - couldn't attend the party.

Prince Charles buys DIY store for £35M

Britain's Duke of Cornwall has bought a B&Q store in Milton Keynes for a reported £35 million.
The 66-year-old royal and his wife Duchess Camilla snapped up the DIY shop in Buckinghamshire, South East England, last month.
A statement on the Duchy of Cornwall website reads: "The Duchy of Cornwall is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new property in Milton Keynes.
"The purchase of a 117, 000 square foot store, situated on Patriot Drive in Rooksley, was completed on Thursday 13th August 2015."
It's thought the Prince will rent the store to the home improvement company in Rooksley shopping centre for an estimated £2.2 million a year.
The DIY shop is set to rake in more funding for Prince Charles - also known as the Prince of Wales - as part of his Duchy of Cornwall, which was set up by Edward III in 1337.
Other estates bought by the Duchy, which extends across 23 countries, are said to include a Holiday Inn, Dartmoor Prison and the Oval cricket ground in Lambeth, London.

Cressida Bonas has ‘strong feelings’ for Prince Harry

Britain's Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas "still has strong feelings" for him.
The 26-year-old beauty reportedly dumped her boyfriend Edward Holcroft, whom she has been dating for six months, last week because her heart still belongs to the royal hunk.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "She's considering making another go at it with Harry. She still holds Harry dear and always felt he was The One, even though she ended the relationship to focus on her acting career."
It's believed the aspiring actress decided to take action following reports the 30-year-old Prince is growing closer to his former flame Chelsy Davy, 29, yet again.
The heir to the British throne reportedly met up with Chelsy - whom he had an on-off relationship with from 2004 to 2010 - while on his expedition saving animals in Africa last month.
A source said previously: "Harry still holds a candle for her. Chelsy has his heart. They saw each other recently.
"There's still very much something between them, but Chelsy won't commit yet because she doesn't want to lead a life in the spotlight. Harry's very sensitive to that."
Meanwhile, Harry - the grandson of Queen Elizabeth - has been single since he called time on his relationship with Cressida in April of this year, while Chelsy also ended her romance with Charles Goode earlier this year.

Queen Elizabeth portrait made with solider name tapes

A portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth has been made using the name tapes of soldiers killed in WW1.
Joy Pitts spent 136 hours making the artwork of the 89-year-old monarch, which shows her wearing a purple cardigan, using fabric tags stitched with the names of the brave fallen servicemen and woman who fought in World War One.
Speaking to the BBC, Joy said of the portrait: "It took me 136 hours to assemble and I used 125 grams of dressmaker pins, which is quite a lot.
"It hurts your fingers, it's quite intense, but I like the idea of pinning them because it goes back to the idea of the clothing and the process of making."
The talented artist decided to get to work on the piece after being inspired by the Queen's reconciliation message at Christmas, which recalled the festive truce of 1914.
Joy has named the portrait Reconciliation and will display it as part of the Wirksworth Festival until later this month.
Queen Elizabeth - who became the longest reigning monarch last week - penned Joy a letter after seeing the portrait, stating she was "very touched" by the masterpiece.

Duchess Catherine gets hair cut

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has had her hair cut.
The 33-year-old royal showcased her new middle-part fringe and shorter locks while travelling to church with her husband Prince William, 33, in Scotland on Sunday (13.09.15).
Her chocolate tresses were combed back into a half-up-half-down 'do, while her stylish bangs framed her dainty features.
The Duchess, who was known as Kate Middleton until she married William in 2011, was dressed in a maroon cross-over coat and black turtleneck blouse, while her royal spouse opted for a navy suit and tie combination.
The couple were full of smiles as they made their way through the traffic in their plush Range Rover towards the place of worship, while waving vigorously at onlookers.
Catherine is certainly no stranger to changing up her look a little as a few months back she added some character to her luxurious locks by cutting in some choppy layers.
The couple - who reside in Norfolk - arrived in Scotland last week with their two children, Prince George, two, and Princess Charlotte, four months, as they celebrated Queen Elizabeth becoming the longest reigning monarch.
Meanwhile, the Duchess is set to return to royal duties this week after four months maternity leave.
She will make her first official engagement on September 17 when she will visit the Anna Freud Centre as her involvement with children's mental health charities gets underway, according to HELLO! magazine.
The Princess previously released a statement via Kensington Palace stating how she and William intend to "play a part" in the improvement of mental health services and to address the issues in order to "benefit young people."

Queen Elizabeth ruptures blood vessel in eye

Britain's Queen Elizabeth appears to have ruptured a blood vessel in her eye.
The 89-year-old monarch is believed to be suffering with a subconjunctival haemorrhage as she arrived at the show-jumping championships in Scotland on Monday (14.09.15) displaying an extremely bloodshot right eye.
Despite the condition, the Queen - who became the longest reigning monarch last week - appeared to be in high spirits as she stopped to chat to spectators at the event.
This isn't the first time the Her Majesty has been plagued with the condition, which is usually painless and clears up within days, as she also battled it in 2006 and again in 2012.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told the Daily Express newspaper the Queen is "well" and there's no need to worry.
The monarch, who was dressed in a houndstooth coat and a feathered white hat for the event, attended the FEI European Eventing Championship at Blair Castle in Perthshire and proudly presented winners with their medals.
Also in attendance was her husband Prince Philip.
