Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge stuns at first state banquet

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge stunned in a red dress and tiara as she took part in her first state banquet.
The 33-year-old royal chose a beautiful striking gown with capped sleeves and a belted waist - which was created by her favourite designer Jenny Packham - for the official engagement.
Fashion designer Elizabeth Emanuel - who co-designed the late Princess Diana's wedding dress - said: "Red is very important as a statement in itself as it matches the colour of the Chinese flag and it means good fortune.
"It's elegant and graceful, which shows off her figure as well. Even after her second child, you can see she has the most beautiful figure.
"She's a young woman and the capped sleeves are perfectly appropriate and scooped neckline is elegant. Her hair in a chignon is beautiful as well. She just looks absolutely right for the occasion - glamorous but not over the top."
The mother-of-two - who has five-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte and two-year-old son Prince George with her husband Prince William - also chose to wear the Lotus Flower tiara, first worn by the Queen's mother in the 1920s.
Speaking about the stunning accessory, expert Leslie Field told PEOPLE magazine: "It's one of the only two she has worn. She wore it for the diplomatic reception, which is a state occasion.
"It was worn by Princess Margaret when she was young and it has a youthful image. And it was originally the Queen Mother's and she wore it as a young married woman as well."

Britain’s Prince Harry surprises villagers

Britain's Prince Harry surprised locals as he took part in a country walk for charity.
The 31-year-old royal passed through the quiet village of Little Walsingham in Norfolk, east England as he continued a 1000 mile trek from Scotland to London in aid of Walking With The Wounded.
Shannon Warby, who works for Walsingham Farm Shop, baked sausage rolls for the soldiers but didn't realise His Royal Highness would be passing through too.
She told BBC News: "I said to him 'Do you want a sausage roll?' and he said, 'Yes, I would love one. Thank you.'
"He did say they were actually beautiful. He is a true gentleman. It was an absolute honour and an amazing thing to happen to our village."
Prince Harry is joined by six soldiers, who have been wounded whilst on duty, and the group have already raised £75,000.
They departed from Scotland on August 22 and will end their walk at Buckingham Palace on November 1.
This is the third walk the Prince has taken part in for the charity, having previously trekked the South and North Pole.
Writing about his support for the charity on its official website, he shares: "Walking With The Wounded continues to champion our extraordinary wounded service personnel and highlight their determination and courage to face future challenges following injury on the battlefield, whether physical or cognitive.
"Their inspirational expeditions have already impacted so many and I hope they will continue to impact many more."

Britain’s Duke and Duchess of York’s former home demolished

The former home of Britain's Duke and Duchess of York has been demolished.
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah were gifted the sprawling £15 million mansion by the Prince's mother Queen Elizabeth in 1996 following their marriage but the 12-bedroom Sunninghill Park in Berkshire has now been pulled down.
The house was sold by the royals in 2007 to Kazakhstani businessman Timur Kulibayev and then sold to another buyer but it has since gone into disrepair and the council have allowed it to be knocked down.
The area has also been plighted by the "noisy" jumbo jets coming into nearby Heathrow Airport.
A neighbour said: "It's terrible - huge jumbo jets fly right over our rooftops and it's so, so noisy."
Another local added to the Mail Online: "It's going to be good if it goes because the history goes with it. It had lovely grounds and staff but it was never a place of great beauty."
The home is expected to be replaced by a larger property - a six bedroom house, which will also have a further eight bedrooms specifically for staff use.

Britain’s Princess Anne opens livestock market

Britain's Princess Anne formally opened a livestock market yesterday (20.10.15).
The 65-year-old royal was greeted by members of the public waving flags as she arrived in Holsworthy, Devon, southwest England.
Addressing the crowd, she said: "It's a real pleasure to see this level of investment in a livestock market.
"I wish you all the best possible luck for the future and I look forward to hearing more about the market as time goes on."
Princess Anne was shown around by Kivells auctioneer James Morrish.
He added: "It's fantastic to have Her Royal Highness at Holsworthy and it's unbelievable to have her here at the market. The weather is great and the town is out in its finery."
Holsworthy's mayor John Allen was also on hand to celebrate the big day and saw it as a "real honour" to have Her Royal Highness open the market.
He told the North Devon Journal: "It's a tremendous day for Holsworthy blessed by beautiful weather. This visit will give the market a real boost and help give it the credibility it deserves as the UK's most modern livestock market. It's a real honour to have Her Royal Highness here to open it for us."

Britain’s Countess of Wessex ‘caved’ into fashion

Britain's Countess of Wessex "caved" into fashion.
The 50-year-old royal admits she "wrestled" with the fact her style and fashion choices would be talked about by others but has since learned it is a part of being well known.
She said: "I remember having a chat with somebody and them saying, 'You know you've got to recognise that this is part and parcel of what you're doing. When you walk into a room, yes people are going to talk about what you're doing there, but they're also going to want to know what you're wearing.'
"I sort of wrestled with that one for a little while and slightly caved in at the end of the day."
And Her Royal Highness Sophie also found it "surprising" when she was listed as 'Best Dressed' alongside the likes of Amal Clooney.
She gushed to the Daily Express newspaper: "How surprising was that! I kept on reading the names, thinking, 'Are they sure they're not thinking of someone else?'"
Talking about her own personal style, she added: "I know what I like and what I don't like, but I have never had a stylist. I have a couple of favourite places for clothes and I've being going to (hatmaker) Jane (Taylor) for years."

Britain’s Princess Eugenie raises money for charity

Britain's Princess Eugenie has donned a blue scarf to raise money for victims of human trafficking.
The 25-year-old royal was just one of a number of celebrities who posed in the scarf, printed with a heart motif, in aid of the United Nations Blue Heart Campaign.
Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas also posted a photograph of herself in the scarf as well as former 'Made in Chelsea' star Millie Mackintosh and Katherine Jenkins.
Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness - who is the daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York - previously admitted she wishes she could look as good as her mother does at her age and says she was so "proud" of her for walking on the catwalk at a charity event organised by supermodel Naomi Campbell.
She said: "I hope I look that good when I'm her age. I'm so proud of my mum for walking in Naomi's show. She looked great, and it was for such a good cause. I wasn't there myself because I was out having dinner with my dad."

Britain’s Prince William fears daughter will never see wild elephant

Britain's Prince William fears his daughter will never see a wild elephant.
The 33-year-old royal - who has five-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte and son Prince George, two, with his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge - admits he is growing increasingly concerned about the illegal ivory trade affecting his little girl's chance of seeing the majestic creature in the wild.
He said: "We have to accept the truth: that consumers are driving the demand for animal body parts, for art, for trinkets, or for medicine. Only we as consumers can put the wildlife traffickers out of business.
"It is time to talk about the growing human demand for illegal wildlife products that drives the trade and makes it profitable. The good news is that we are far from powerless in this struggle. We can turn the tide of extinction."
And the Duke of Cambridge - who is a long-time supporter of animal welfare - urged the 100 million people in China who are expected to watch the debate that they could be a "global leader" in protecting animals.
He added: "I am absolutely convinced that China can become a global leader in the protection of wildlife. Your influence in the world means you could change the face of conservation in this century. This would be a contribution that could go down in history."

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth a ‘great listener’

Britain's Queen Elizabeth is a "great listener".
The 89-year-old royal is always there to lend an ear and has a "great desire to learn all the time", according to her daughter-in-law Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.
She said: "Watching the Queen in certain situations - she's a great listener.
"And you see her considering what people are saying and you can see the information going in, and she clearly has a great desire to learn all the time. I think that's amazing at 89, with all she's seen and done in her life."
And the 50-year-old royal admits she found public engagements difficult at first but was inspired to "carve out my own style" by her background in public relations.
She shared to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Initially, when I first started to do full-time engagements, I sort of had to start paddling my own canoe a bit and carving out my own style. You can't expect people to think you're going to suddenly know what you're doing. It took time.
"I suppose because I've tried hard to learn from what I've been doing over the years, I would like to be able to speak with a certain amount of authority about certain subjects. While recognising that I don't know everything and certainly couldn't claim to have all of the answers, I try to cajole and push and help from a different perspective and bring people together who might be able to move things forward."

Britain’s Prince Charles needs rest

Britain's Prince Charles will miss the state banquet to rest.
Buckingham Palace recently confirmed that the 66-year-old royal is set to miss the event held by his mother Queen Elizabeth in honour of China's President Xi Jinping so he can relax before he heads abroad next month for royal commitments.
A source told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Perhaps he has not been in public view quite as much as he often is in October but that's because he has got such a busy time ahead. By the end of this year he'll have done seven foreign tours. He normally only does three. He's abroad virtually the whole of November.
"There was always going to be an issue with his time during the state visit but he has built in time with the president when they can talk. The state banquet is a lovely celebratory event but it's not the central event and it's not one where there's an opportunity to chat at length and build up a working relationship."
However, the Prince of Wales will meet with the President during his four-day visit despite his rumoured strained relationship with the Asian country over his support for the disputed territory of Tibet.
During the President's visit, the Prince will attend a meeting with the Chinese delegation at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London before attending a formal welcome on Horse Guards Parade.
