One Direction to perform for Britain’s Prince Harry

One Direction and Elton John are to perform for Britain's Prince Harry at this year's Royal Variety Performance.
The chart-topping boy band - who are going on an extended hiatus next year - and the 'I'm Still Standing' hitmaker have been announced as performers for the annual event, which will be held at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 13.
Jack Whitehall, 27, is set to become the youngest host of the variety show.
Speaking about his role, he shared: "Having been lucky enough to perform for Prince Charles and Prince William in previous years I look forward to the opportunity of sailing a little too close to the wind in the presence of Prince Harry this time round.
"It's my third time on the show and I still am yet to perform in front of The Queen, she must be really desperate not to see my act."
The 31-year-old royal will also be treated to performances by Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin, The Corrs, Josh Groban and Little Mix amongst others.
Jeff Lynne's ELO will also make a rare appearance and winners of 'Britain's Got Talent' Jules and Matisse will also take to the stage.
Showcasing the stylings of the West End, the cast of 'The Play That Goes Wrong' will entertain His Royal Highness with the help of some special celebrity guests and Beverly Knight will perform a track from 'Cats: The Musical'.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth surprises horse whisperer

Britain's Queen Elizabeth made a surprise visit to a horse whispering demonstration.
Monty Roberts - who is known for his ability to tame wild horses - was appearing at Buckingham Palace's Royal Mews for the event, in support of equine welfare charity The Brooke.
The 89-year-old royal was also joined by the Duchess of Cornwall, with both wrapping up in winter coats.
Speaking about his first meeting with the Queen, Monty told the Daily Mail newspaper: "She sent a man over to California - I thought it was a joke - they brought me to Windsor Castle in April of 1989. Her Majesty had 23 horses ready for me to work with and it was one week with Her Majesty there every day, when it was only supposed to be one hour.
"She said there had to be a book and she sent me to 21 cities in 30 days because she wanted this message out there. Every year, two, three, four times a year that we get together, we discuss what's happened, we discuss what we want to do.
"If she hadn't pushed me, I'd be a cowboy in California doing parochial stuff."

Britain’s Prince Harry ‘humbled’ to present award

Britain's Prince Harry was "humbled" to present a carer with a special recognition award.
The 31-year-old royal was on hand to personally give Jane Concannon, who works as a Hospital Play Specialist at Manchester Children's Hospital, the honour on behalf of children's charity WellChild.
He said: "I am humbled by the people and children I meet. You guys are awesome. The stories we have heard tonight are moving beyond words. They remind us of the utter insignificance of our everyday worries.
"Yet, one of the things that always stands out is the positivity shown by those in the most difficult and testing circumstances. It is heartening to hear so many stories of happiness and hope, even through the dark times."
Jane was nominated for the prestigious award by 13-year-old Brooke Taylor.
She shared: "Janet loves her job. She tells me often and it is clear to see. She treats me as if I'm her only patient."
Whilst WellChild's Director of Programmes Linda Partridge added: "It is a tremendous challenge selecting winners from the many, many truly amazing nominations we receive from across the UK.
"All the panel members are moved by the dedication of the doctors, nurses, teachers, brothers and sisters who make a great difference to the lives of children with serious illnesses or complex care needs."

Jackie Chan meets Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Jackie Chan met with Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at a cultural event yesterday (21.10.15).
The 'Rush Hour' star attended Lancaster House in London, England to meet with the British royals and the Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Liyuan.
Speaking after their meeting, the 61-year-old actor - who is known for his kung-fu skills - said: "I think it really helps for the culture exchange. Right now China is one of the bigger markets. Collaboration really helps me to create new ideas."
Meanwhile, during their visit, the Prince and his wife came face to face with the star of 'Kung Fu Panda 3' as well as the Aston Martin DB10 used in the latest James Bond film 'SPECTRE'.
Second in line to the throne, His Royal Highness Prince William stood with the president by the Bond car, before joking: "Would you like to go for a quick drive in it? No-one would notice."
The Chinese leader was also incredibly interested in the latest film, according to Michael Wilson, one of 'SPECTRE's producers.
He said: "The president asked which film it was for ... He seemed interested to know what was going on."

Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge get first look at Poldark

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got a sneak preview of the new series of 'Poldark'.
The royals and their guests - the first couple of China, President Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan - were shown a scene from the BBC drama, where Elizabeth (Heida Reed) and George (Jack Farthing) try to set a date for their wedding.
After watching the scene, the guests of honour then spoke to the actors and the show's writer and executive producer Debbie Horsfield.
When the 33-year-old Prince asked her if Cornwall - where the show is filmed - was windy, she replied: "Really windy."
And he joked back: "All the sound microphones were blown away."
Once inside Lancaster House, Merlin Entertainments put on a performance showcase for the esteemed guests, with Artistic Director for the company Kieren Smith, starring as character Doc Merlin to introduce the party to the attractions.
Speaking afterwards, he said: "It was really enjoyable. The President and his wife were delightful, smiling and laughing, they definitely seemed to enjoy it.
"I think William and Kate found it funny as well, we put some of our British humour into it."
At the end of their visit, the president was presented with a painting from BAFTA, which shows the creative collaboration between the countries.
Chief executive of BAFTA Amanda Berry said of the visit: "It was a unique opportunity to showcase not only the best of British but also the relationships that are already happening in Britain and China."

Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge stuns in D+G dress

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge wore a designer dress as she attended a cultural event with the Chinese president.
The 33-year-old royal looked stunning as she chatted with her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, and President Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan.
The beautiful purple lace dress, which costs £1,850, was made by luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana and showed off her trim figure only five months after giving birth to Princess Charlotte.
And the designers have made no secret of the fact they would like to design outfits for Her Royal Highness.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said previously: "She dresses 'just right', as we'd say in Italy. Nothing too exciting, no excesses. Which is what is called for, in a princess.
"She has class. If she asked us, of course we'd design something for her, but you know, I think it's brilliant the way she wears only English labels. That's an important message to send out."
And on Tuesday (20.10.15), the Duchess attended her first state banquet in a red dress complete with capped sleeves and a belted waist, designed by Jenny Packman.
When asked if they work together on designs, Jenny previously said: "Absolutely. It's always quite a collaboration."

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth remembers China visit

Britain's Queen Elizabeth fondly remembered her visit to China as she addressed the country's President Xi Jinping.
The 89-year-old royal and her husband Prince Philip visited the Asian country nearly 30 years ago and in her speech to the President and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan, she warmly recalled all the "unforgettable memories".
She said: "The United Kingdom and China have a warm and longstanding friendship. Prince Philip and I recall with great fondness our visit to China almost thirty years ago, where we were privileged to experience your country's rich history and culture, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Warriors: all unforgettable memories of China's ancient civilisation.
"Yet it was China's desire to shape a new future which captivated us the most. We were struck by the energy and enthusiasm with which China's leaders were forging ahead with a new and ambitious future for the Chinese people."
The Queen also made reference to her grandson Prince William's visit to China, insisting she was "delighted" he could explore the cities and the "strong connections" between the two countries.
She added: "I was delighted that my grandson Prince William was able to witness these changes during his first visit to China earlier this year. Like myself and Prince Philip, he visited not only your great cities of Beijing and Shanghai but also the beautiful province of Yunnan, and saw at first-hand the strong connections which bind our two countries together, be they in culture, education or business."
