Prince Charles ‘relieved’ New Zealand won Rugby World Cup

Britain's Prince Charles has joked he's "relieved" New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup last week.
The 66-year-old royal, who is currently touring the country with his wife Duchess Camilla, is thrilled the national team - nicknamed the All Blacks - walked away with the tournament trophy because he was worried he would have been faced with a nation in "total gloom" when he got there.
Speaking at his state reception in Wellington, New Zealand, on Wednesday night (04.11.15), he said: "I'm so relieved New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup.
"Otherwise I was slightly anxious of what I was going to find when I got here - a nation in total gloom."
Charles, who appeared at the function with Camilla, claimed he "secretly" knew the New Zealand team was going to win "the whole time" because their remarkable performance gave a "demonstration of sporting prowess" when they beat Australia 34-17 at Twickenham Stadium, London, last week.
However, the Prince - who is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - may not get such a warm welcome when he heads Down Under next week.
He said: "By the time we get to Australia hopefully they've got over it."
Meanwhile, the royal couple, who got married in 2005, arrived in New Zealand on Wednesday and will spend six days touring the country before making their way to Australia to visit Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney, Albany and Perth.

Princess Anne ‘swore’ in first Australia royal walkabout

Britain's Princess Anne left the people of Australia stunned when she swore on her first ever royal walkabout in 1970.
A former private secretary of the Queen has claimed the 65-year-old royal - who was 19 at the time - angered the public in Sydney when she complained about the "bl**dy wind."
Writing in his book 'The Royals in Australia', Sir William Heseltine, the only Australian to serve as the Queen's private secretary, claimed: "Princess Anne was quoted as referring to 'this bloody wind,' shocking many old-fashion Australians who could not believe that any member of the royal family ... would use such language."
He added: "She had been having difficulty with her hat in the wind, and there was, unfortunately, no doubt at all that she had used the word, by no means unusually for her."
Sir William has stated the incident took place around the same time her father Prince Philip had uttered a "rude word" in Greek to a man who had greeted him in the crowd.
However, the 94-year-old royal denied he had used a foul-mouth phrase and has stood by his innocence ever since.
Sir William, 85, said: "On leaving the Sydney show-ground the press alleged that Prince Philip, on being greeted in Greek by someone in the crowd, had replied with a rude word in the same language in 1970."
He added: "I had to try and sort out this idiotic drama."

Countess of Wessex flashes tummy at Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards

Britain's Countess of Wessex flashed her toned tummy in a lace peek-a-boo dress at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in London last night (03.11.15).
The 50-year-old royal - the daughter-in-law of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - dropped jaws at the event when she stepped out in a £2,375 Mary Katrantzou gown.
The blonde beauty appeared to be in her element as she posed for photographs on the red carpet, before making her way into the star-studded ceremony held at Claridges.
The Countess - also known as Sophie - flaunted her trim physique in her mid-calf-length dress, which featured a small waist-band cut-out and lace detailing across the chest.
She completed the look with a pair of black suede heels and a matching bag, while her hair and makeup were kept simple, yet elegant, with a sophisticated up-do.
Meanwhile, the stunner - who is the wife of Prince Edward - previously admitted she had "caved in" to the demands of being a fashion-conscious royal in the public eye.
Speaking to the Daily Express newspaper, she said: "I recognise that I'm on display. I remember having a chat with somebody and them saying, 'You know you've got to recognise that this is part and parcel of what you're doing.
"When you walk into a room, yes people are going to talk about what you're doing there, but they're also going to want to know what you're wearing.' I sort of wrestled with that one for a little while and slightly caved in at the end of the day."

Princess Anne attends HMS Victory charity lunch

Britain's Princess Anne attended a charity lunch in New York in support of the HMS Victory ship yesterday (03.11.15).
The 65-year-old royal, who is the patron of the museum, was asked to join the special meal hosted by the American Friends of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, a not‐for‐profit organisation that furthers the special relationship between the British and American navies, in celebration of the world's most iconic warship.
David W. Fleming, Founding President of the AFNMRN, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Her Royal Highness as guest of honour. There is a very special relationship and shared respect between our two navies, past and present."
The Princess - the daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - tucked into the lavish meal on board Cunard's flagship ocean liner Queen Mary 2 while discussing ways to protect the future of the HMS Victory.
All proceeds from the event, which was hosted by Cunard, will go towards the conservation of HMS Victory.
Angus Struthers, Cunard's Director, added: "Cunard's relationship with the Royal Navy dates back to the company's inception in 1840 and throughout time Cunard has played an integral role in both the US and UK's war efforts. We are honoured and thrilled to be able to join forces today with the National Museum of the Royal Navy and be a part of the efforts to preserve HMS Victory."

Queen Elizabeth to celebrate 90th on cruise ship?

Britain's Queen Elizabeth is reportedly planning to celebrate her 90th birthday with a cruise around the Western Isles.
The 89-year-old royal is set to hit the big milestone next April and is keen to jump onboard the Hebridean Princess - the ship she used to celebrate her 80th - on July 30 in Invergordon and finish up Scrabster, Scotland, 10 days later.
However, a royal spokesman refused to confirm or deny whether the monarch had booked out the cruise.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman told Aberdeen Press and Journals newspaper: "We would not comment on the private time of the Queen or members of the royal family."
Meanwhile, Elizabeth became Britain's longest-reigning monarch two months ago after she surpass her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who served the country for 63 years and seven months.
Acknowledging her record-breaking reign, the queen admitted: "It is one to which I have never aspired".
But she added: "Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones - my own is no exception - but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness."
The exact moment the royal passed Victoria's milestone is not known as there is no precise time of death for her father, George VI - who died in the early hours of February 6 1952.

Duchess of York supports Prince Andrew at Pitch@Palace event

Britain's Duchess of York supported her ex-husband Prince Andrew at his Pitch@Palace event on Monday (02.11.15).
The 56-year-old royal, who divorced the Duke in 1996 but has remained on good terms with him, rallied around her ex-spouse at St James' Palace in London as he hosted the fourth installment of his entrepreneur programme.
The flame-haired beauty appeared to be in her element as she wandered around the official residence of the sovereign in her figure-hugging dress while chatting to guests.
The former couple's eldest daughter Princess Beatrice, 27, was also in attendance and seemed to be enjoying herself, although her sister Eugenie, 25, was nowhere to be seen.
Prince Andrew - the son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - launched the scheme, which invites 42 youngsters to perfect their inventions before a shortlist is invited to pitch a business idea to a large group of investors, earlier this year.
He said previously: "It's dead simple. I felt that venture capital was not investing in early stage activity. It comes out of mitigating risk rather than looking at the individual and the idea, and accepting that the idea may change.
"I called in a few people from the venture capital world - yes, quite a few from Cambridge - the idea was for a member of the Royal Family to be an accelerant. Pitch@Palace is an enabling device to bring small businesses and entrepreneurs in contact with these people. I take no cut."

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge help write joke book for schoolboy

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have helped a young boy write a joke book in memory of his grandfathers.
Tom Heyes, 11, called on the royal couple and various other celebrities across the UK to help add to his little of collection of gags that he'd penned to raise money for charity.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "Soon I had lots of jokes and I thought it would make a great book because I wanted to raise some money in memory of my granddads."
The talented schoolboy managed to raise £840 for charity and gave half the proceeds to staff at the Medical Day Unit at Southport Hospital, where his granddad Peter Heyes was cared for up until he sadly lost his battle with leukaemia.
The other half of the money went to the British Heart Foundation in memory of Tom's other granddad, David Birchall, who tragically died 18 months later aged just 67.
Meanwhile, the royal couple - who have children Prince George, two, and six-month-old Princess Charlotte together - have been busy trying to raise awareness of the mental health issues young people and children face today.
Duchess Catherine, 33 - who is patron of a number of children's charities including student counselling organisation Place2BE - recently released a statement saying how she intends to "play a part" in the improvement of mental health services in order to "benefit young people."

Earl of Wessex takes tour of IWK Health Centre

Britain's Earl of Wessex took a tour of the IWK Health Centre in Nova Scotia, Canada yesterday (02.11.15).
The 51-year-old royal - the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth - stopped by the medical facility in Halifax to meet the staff and patients of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Garron Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
In honour of Prince Edwards's first trip to the hospital, the IWK Health Centre and the IWK Foundation announced the new Wessex Scholarship, which will be awarded to someone committed to community service and with a desire to pursue a post-secondary degree in the health care field.
Tracy Kitch, the CEO and president of the hospital, told Global News Canada: "We believe the Wessex Scholarship will not only provide much-deserved support and appreciation, but perhaps even develop professionals who commit to a career in health care right here at the IWK."
After he had wrapped up his tour of the hospital, the Prince went on to dish out 62 awards to youths at the Duke of Edinburgh's International Awards ceremony, which was originally set up by his father, Prince Philip, 94.
The scheme, which was started in 1956, tries to encourage youngsters to participate in a number of physical activities, community service and outdoor expeditions.
Prince Edward, who has been the chairman of the award ceremony since 1992, said: "This program essentially teaches people how to be able to take opportunities, seize opportunities and how to overcome challenges."

Prince Philip is last person to receive knighthood from Australia

Britain's Prince Philip is the last person to receive a knighthood from Australia.
The 94-year-old royal was awarded the title in January by Australia's then-Prime Minister Tony Abbott under its honours system, but the country's new leader Malcolm Turnbull has now decided to scrap the award system.
Mr Turnbull believes knighthoods and dames are "not appropriate" in modern Australia and Queen Elizabeth had accepted the cabinet's recommendation to axe them.
The Australian cabinet issued a statement stating: "Awards in the Order of Australia are an important way of honouring the achievements and service of many Australians, including those unsung heroes who might not otherwise be recognised outside their local communities.
"The Cabinet recently considered the Order of Australia, in this its 40th anniversary year, and agreed that Knights and Dames are not appropriate in our modern honours system."
Mr Abbott reintroduced the titles last March almost 30 years after they were initially scrapped by Labour PM Bob Hawke.
The ousted leader's decision to bring back the award was heavily criticised at the time.
And he was slapped with even more backlash earlier this year when he nominated Philip for the knighthood, which some people thought was a "totally crazy" move.
