Princess Anne opens new Cheltenham Racecourse grandstand

Britain's Princess Anne was supported by her daughter Zara Tindall as she opened a new grandstand at Cheltenham Racecourse.
Zara and her husband Mike Tindall looked on with pride as her mother gave a speech to commemorate the opening of the new Princess Royal Stand, which is part of a £45 million investment in the arena.
Anne, Princess Royal herself stated that she was "really touched that you should have asked me to lend my name to this stand."
The 65-year-old royal - who is president of the World Horse Welfare organisation and supports numerous equestrian charities - opted for a long camel-coloured coat and Russian-style fur hat for the occasion.
In addition to her daughter Zara and her other half, Anne's son Peter Phillips was also in attendance for her speech.
To celebrate the opening of the new stand, local bakers had recreated the famous race track and its stands in cake form and presented it to Princess Anne.
Despite being impressed by the enormous creation - complete with plastic horses and fake grass - Anne had to get on her hands and knees to cut a slice.

Prince Charles calls for moment of silence following Paris attacks

Britain's Prince Charles called for a moment of silence during his birthday celebrations following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday (13.11.15).
The Prince of Wales was celebrating bis 67th birthday in Australia on Saturday (14.11.15) when he took a moment to slam the "bestial" attacks on the people of France.
He said: "I hope all of you here will be able to join me in expressing our particular sympathy and solidarity with everybody in France.
"And also join with me in expressing as well out utter, total horror at what has happened.
"Our hearts go out, and I'm sure you will agree, to all those who have been affected in the most dreadful way, by these bestial attacks."
Prince Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, also released a statement following the attacks.
She said: "Prince Philip and I have been deeply shocked and saddened by the terrible loss of life in Paris.
"We send our most sincere condolences to you, the families of those who have died and the French people."
A total of 129 people have so far been confirmed dead after gunmen opened fire at a number of locations including the Bataclan theatre and the Stade de France.

Bieber fan Sarah Ferguson

Sarah Ferguson follows Justin Bieber on Instagram.
The Duchess of York - who was previously married to Queen Elizabeth's son Prince Andrew - signed up to the social networking site recently and quickly followed a number of celebrities including Justin, 21.
Other stars to get the seal of approval from Sarah, 56, include Justin's ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, Cara and Poppy Delevingne, Taylor Swift, David and Victoria Beckham, Beyonce Knowles, Elton John and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Perhaps Sarah was introduced to Bieber's music by her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie as Andrew revealed last year that Eugenie was responsible for his newfound love of will.i.am's music.
He said: "He's now on my playlist, mostly because my youngest daughter put him on. He's a major inspiration to a lot of young people from all sorts of backgrounds - not just because he's famous but he actually has something many others don't have, which is that he cares about giving back to his community.
"I have seen him do it - and it only takes about a sentence from him to change somebody's life.
"I have a very eclectic listening habit. I have classical and, as it were, more modern music. I listen to it sometimes in the car, though mostly when I'm exercising."

Sniffer dog targets Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth was targeted by a sniffer dog in London on Thursday (12.11.15).
Ruby, the detection dog has been responsible for uncovering millions in illegal cash while working Border Force at London's Heathrow Airport but was left disappointed when meeting the queen at UK Government's Home Office as she rarely carries cash.
Ruby's handler David Bellingham explained: "She always goes for handbags because she knows that people carry money there, but she didn't indicate this time. If she had found a large amount of cash she would have sat down with her nose pointing at the source. Ruby would normally be working at this time of day so I could feel her wanting to pull towards the queen."
The monarch also made a speech to staff in which she praised their public service.
She said: "I know that being a member of the Civil Service, and indeed being involved in public service of any sort, is not always an easy task. Even the best public servants cannot hope to be popular with everyone all the time; and - as in every walk of life - there is often room for improvement and finding fresh ways of doing things."

Prince Harry for Royal Variety Performance

The Royal Variety Performance will take place in London tonight (13.11.15).
Britain's Prince Harry will represent his grandmother Queen Elizabeth as he attends the concert at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time.
Harry will watch performances from headliners One Direction and Elton John, along with supporting acts Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin, The Corrs, Josh Groban and Little Mix amongst others.
Jack Whitehall will present the variety show for the third time and joked that Queen Elizabeth is sending Harry because she doesn't want to see his act.
Speaking about his role, he shared: "Having been lucky enough to perform for Prince Charles and Prince William in previous years I look forward to the opportunity of sailing a little too close to the wind in the presence of Prince Harry this time round.
"It's my third time on the show and I still am yet to perform in front of the queen, she must be really desperate not to see my act."
Jeff Lynne's ELO will also make a rare appearance and winners of 'Britain's Got Talent' Jules and Matisse will also take to the stage.
Showcasing the stylings of the West End, the cast of 'The Play That Goes Wrong' will entertain His Royal Highness with the help of some special celebrity guests and Beverly Knight will perform a track from 'Cats: The Musical'.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla enjoy relaxing day

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla enjoyed a day of relaxation in Perth on Friday (13.11.15).
The couple - who are currently on a royal tour of Australia - took time out of their busy schedule to relax at Government House in Perth, before resuming their duties in Western Australia.
On Saturday (14.11.15), the royals will visit Albany for a log chopping demonstration at the Albany Agricultural Show, before making a trip to Mt Adelaide and the National ANZAC Centre to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landings.

State Premier Colin Barnett will host the bash and has promised to give the couple a taste of "the very best West Australian produce".
This is not the first time that Charles has visited Cottesloe beach; in 1979 he was pictured receiving a kiss on the cheek from model Jane Priest as they waded through the surf.
Charles and Camilla will fly back to the UK on Sunday (15.11.15).

Sam Smith’s royal embarrassment

Sam Smith was left embarrassed after meeting Prince William.
The 23-year-old singer met the 33-year-old royal at the 'SPECTRE' premiere in London last month but Sam admitted he felt stupid after bowing dramatically in front of the second-in-line to the British throne.
Speaking on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', Sam - who wrote the 'SPECTRE' theme song 'Writing's on the Wall' - said: "My issue is that I watch too much 'Downton Abbey'. You get instructions, right, they say you gotta bow with one arm behind your back. And if someone tells you how to bow, right, I properly went for it."
Fallon showed a picture of Sam's extravagant bow and jokingly claimed that an onlooker was laughing at him.
He teased: "This guy's laughing at you. Oh you silly, silly boy. You silly man. What is wrong with you?' "
However, he reassured Sam by saying: "It makes you more endearing."
Prince William's wife Duchess Catherine and brother Prince Harry were also at the premiere but Sam appears to have only embarrassed himself in front of William.

Prince Harry’s new plan to help injured veterans

Prince Harry has outlined his latest plan for supporting wounded service personnel and veterans.
The 31-year-old royal - who is involved in providing rehabilitation and support for those who have been injured in war - gave a speech at St James' Palace on Wednesday (11.11.15), where he revealed plans to get alumni of the Endeavour Fund to help "hard-to-reach" individuals.
Harry said: "In this next phase of the Endeavour Fund, we will be asking those who have taken part in previous endeavours to take a leading role in future challenges. Some as project managers but more significantly to act as peer mentors, forming a support network for those veterans who have not found the impulse to come forward. Our alumni are ideally placed to help these 'hard to reach' individuals rediscover their sense of purpose through sport.
"I would ask all those who may, for whatever reason, feel reluctant to come forward - just dare yourselves to be part of a team again, to work towards a common aim, and most importantly, to move beyond being defined by your injury," he said in an inspiring speech.
"Give yourself the opportunity to create a new definition - sportsman, athlete, guide, adventurer! And most importantly, reconnect with people that understand, people that been through exactly what you're going through now. Trust them, trust yourselves - for you had the same training."
Harry has been fiercely supportive of injured veterans, setting up the Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style event for wounded soldiers and taking part in many challenges with the charity Walking with the Wounded.

Duchess Catherine’s new business

Duchess Catherine is reportedly planning to go into business with her sister Pippa Middleton.
The royal - who is married to Prince William - loves growing organic vegetables at her Anmer Hall estate in Norfolk and is considering turning it into a business, like her father-in-law Prince Charles has done with his Duchy Originals range.
A source told the Mail on Sunday: "It's a concept for now but it will happen - just give it 18 months or so. And it's natural that it should do so. One day Prince William will want to have a profitable business attached to his estate to generate funds - both charitable and otherwise - just like his father does.
"It's also important for William to promote his home, Norfolk, in the same way that Charles promotes Cornwall with the Duchy range. You can just imagine the labelling - 'home-grown organic produce from Norfolk, home of Prince William'."
Catherine's sister Pippa, who is training to become a nutritionist, is said to be involved behind the scenes with the project.
