Rose McGowan has branded her ‘Charmed’ co-star Alyssa Milano as "a lie" for her comments surrounding sexual harassment in Hollywood.
The 45-year-old actress – who starred alongside Alyssa in the hit supernatural drama from 1998 to 2006 – has been hitting out at the recent rise of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements which aim to bring an end to sexual misconduct, as she believes they are not genuine with their motives.
And after Alyssa, also 45, was credited for helping #MeToo go viral, Rose has slammed her for helping the Creative Arts Agency (CAA) gain "good PR".
Speaking about Alyssa – who is married to CAA agent Dave Bugliari – during an interview with ‘Nightline’, Rose said: "I don’t like her. Because I think she’s a lie.
"Do you think I don’t know these people? I’m not looking at this from the outside. I have a lot of experience. I know she’s married to a CAA agent. I do the math. Who’s behind Time’s Up? CAA. Where do they meet? CAA. Who needs good PR? CAA. Who are part of the pimp problem? CAA."
After hearing the comments in the interview, Alyssa provided a statement to the ABC News programme in which she voiced her support for Rose’s ongoing fight against Hollywood executives accused of sexual harassment.
Her statement read: "I am and always have been completely supportive of Rose and admire her bravery in speaking about her experiences. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and perspectives, and I cannot speak to anyone else’s motivations. My goal throughout the past few months with both #MeToo and the Time’s Up movement has been to use my platform to give others a voice so we can all work together to stamp out sexual harassment and sexual assault."
Rose’s comments come just days after she slammed musician and actor Justin Timberlake for wearing a Time’s Up pin to the Golden Globe awards after having worked with Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.
She said: "The intentions are good, but I know the people behind it. It’s four CAA agents who needed good PR. I hope that they desperately help these women.
"Then there’s Justin Timberlake hashtagging ‘My wife looks hot tonight hashtag Time’s Up’ hashtag I just did a movie with Woody Allen.’ So come on, it is fake. I wish it weren’t – I wish everybody were good. I’m sorry to puncture your heroes, but sometimes these heroes need to be better."
The ‘Citizen Rose’ star has become known for speaking out against sexual harassment and sexism after she alleged she was raped by disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
