Roman Kemp wants Bake Off run to redeem family name

Roman Kemp wants to go on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ to redeem the family name.
The radio broadcaster’s famous father Martin Kemp appeared on last year’s celebrity series of the Channel 4 show for Stand Up To Cancer, but he didn’t impress the judges and his son wants the chance to make things right.
Asked which reality show he wants to appear on, he told the Metro newspaper: "Ooh, I’d love ‘Bake Off’. Or even ‘MasterChef’. I’d love to learn to cook properly and I’d have to learn to do that.
"But ‘Bake Off’ is phenomenal, my dad did it and was the most embarrassing person ever, so I feel like I have to do ‘Bake Off’ to resurrect the Kemp name."
Meanwhile, despite slating the Spandau Ballet bassist’s baking skills, the 26-year-old star admitted he thinks the time is "right" for the pair to finally work together.
He explained he initially wanted to put some professional distance between himself and his famous dad so he could find his own identity in the world of showbiz.
He said: "I would love to [do some more work with my dad]. It’s the right time to do that.
"I wanted to have my own voice a little bit – not sell my dad out but give myself a bit of breathing space to understand where I am in this industry and where I sit. I think I’ve done that now."
However, he shrugged off the idea of playing his dad’s songs on his Capital Radio show, and joked frontman – and his uncle – Gary would pull in the royalties as the band’s writer.
He added: "I’d be more tempted to not play them, if I’m being honest! And in terms of bank account, you’d have to speak to Gary about that as he’s the one who wrote the tracks."
