Roman Kemp says his dad Martin Kemp won’t do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because he’s worried about the show’s curse.
The radio host revealed the Spandau Ballet bassist gets offered a spot on the BBC ballroom dancing competition every year, but his father – who has been married to Shirlie Holliman for 30 years – is wary of the impact it can have on relationships.
When asked by ‘This Morning’ host Ben Shephard if Martin, 56, has been asked to compete, Roman said: "My dad gets asked every year. But he’s in a happy marriage!"
The ‘Strictly’ curse has seen a number of stars’ relationships come to an end, such as Louise Redknapp who filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years, football pundit Jamie Redknapp, shortly after competing on the programme.
Meanwhile, Ben’s co-host Mollie King revealed her own ‘Strictly’ experience last year was intense, as she and her pro partner AJ Pritchard were rehearsing for up to 12 hours a day.
She said: "We broke the record for how many hours spent in rehearsal. With AJ, I was always like, ‘We need to do another hour, we need to do this again.’ We were rehearsing from 10am to 10pm. Poor AJ!"
The Saturdays singer also opened up on how difficult it was to keep her appearance on the show under wraps until the official announcement was made.
Mollie – who co-hosted ‘This Morning’ with Ben on Friday (10.08.18) – added: "When you do Strictly it’s the hardest secret to keep, because with your close friends you feel as though you need to tell them but you just can’t, you find yourself speaking and saying, ‘Oh it would be fun, wouldn’t it.’ My family knew, I think that was it, just my family so if it leaked I’d know."
