Coronation Street’s Rob Mallard says his Sinead Osbourne storyline "won’t be winding down anytime soon".
The 27-year-old star’s character Daniel Osbourne has been left devastated after losing his wife Sinead (Katie McGlynn) to cervical cancer recently, but the actor admits her death is only one half of the plot.
Speaking to the Inside Soap Yearbook, he said: "I always see [the story] as being in split into two, the first part was leading up to the death, and the other is about being a widower at a young age, and not knowing how to navigate that.
"Sinead’s death was a peak, but this story won’t be winding down anytime soon."
His comments come after Katie revealed Rob keeps thinking he’s forgotten something on the ‘Coronation Street’ set – only to realise it’s her.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don’t think Rob has stopped since I’ve left. I’ve not stopped in a different way but he’s carried on the storyline.
"He’s said he’s missing me on set and it feels weird. He said to me he keeps thinking he’s forgotten something and it’s me, because I’m not there.
"I need to catch up with him when he’s not busy."
Katie admitted the hard-hitting plot has also taken its toll on her off-set, but she is "incredibly proud" there has been a rise in cervical cancer screenings and smear tests since she started shooting the storyline, and is glad Sinead will also be mentioned on the soap for years to come because of her son Bertie.
She added: "I think anybody who tries to tackle a storyline like that, if you don’t get affected by it at all there’s something wrong with them.
"But it’s worth it because I’ve had so many messages and there’s been research that shows there’s been a rise in cervical cancer screenings now and smear tests.
"So we are doing something, so I’m just very proud.
"I’m incredibly proud to have been part of it. And Sinead is always going to be mentioned because of little Bertie."
