Rob Brydon doesn’t think Gavin and Stacey special can be ‘topped’

Rob Brydon would be up for more ‘Gavin and Stacey’ but doesn’t think the show could "ever top" the recent Christmas special.
The 54-year-old actor reprised his role as Bryn West for the festive special, which attracted more than 17 million viewers, but the comedian doesn’t expect the BBC sitcom to return again "anytime soon".
Speaking on the Chris Evans ‘Virgin Radio Breakfast Show’, he said: "If you’ve done something and people are saying, ‘No, I want more,’ I think that’s the way you want to be.
"And then I saw things saying [I have] put the dampeners on it, ‘He doesn’t want to do it.’ I would do it if they wanted to do it.
"But equally, I don’t know how we’d ever top that. You know that because it came back, it was such a surprise to people that they were going to do it. Nobody more so than me. I had no idea.
"But I don’t see it happening anytime soon."
Rob’s comments come after he recently said he would rather leave ‘Gavin and Stacey’ "on a high" than shoot more episodes.
He recently explained: "Everybody is saying, ‘You must want to do more’, but I’d much rather leave it on a high and it’s really hard to come back after 10 years and make something as popular as this has been, because you can get it wrong."
Rob admitted he was surprised when Ruth and James broke the news they had written a new episode.
He said: "There are no plans whatsoever [for a new series] and personally I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more.
"That’s always my instinct, and I said that before this special and I was very surprised then to see that they had written it."
