Ricky Gervais hints at making a musical version of The Office

Ricky Gervais thinks he could make a musical of ‘The Office’.
The 58-year-old star created, wrote and directed the iconic sitcom alongside Stephen Merchant – and he’s suggested it could one day be turned into a musical.
Ricky – who also starred in the comedy series as office manager David Brent – said: "I think anything can be made a musical, ‘The Office’ or whatever.
"It’s like people say to me you should do a sitcom about where I work, I’m a cab driver. And I go, ‘No you should do a sitcom about where you work because it depends on the expertise’.
"The obvious one would be (Ricky’s 2009 film) ‘The Invention Of Lying’ because it’s such a strong concept and the songs would be funny with people blurting out these truths."
Ricky is currently starring in the new series of his latest comedy creation, ‘After Life’.
The series is available on Netflix and Ricky doubts whether the sitcom would ever be broadcast on terrestrial television.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "This couldn’t be on terrestrial television at a decent time."
Ricky previously confessed ‘After Life’ is one of his favourite comedy creations.
The stand-up star also admitted he’d be keen to make a third series of the show, provided the public want to see it.
He explained: "For the first time ever, I’ve wanted to do a third season of something. [‘After Life’] is my favourite ensemble I’ve ever done.
"It’s the richest world I’ve created, it’s not just a comedy about being in an office or an extra. So I’ve started thinking about it, but we have to see how season two goes down.
"If people say: ‘This is the worst show’ then I won’t do one. It has to be a wanted encore from Netflix and the public for me to do it."
