Reese Witherspoon has never stuck to any of her New Year’s resolutions.
The 40-year-old actress – who has 17-year-old daughter Ava and son Deacon, 13, from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe, and four-year-old son Tennessee with her husband of five years Jim Toth – always vows to "eat healthier" every year, "drink more water" and "exercise" more but she always ends up slipping back to old ways.
In an interview with the new issue of People magazine, she said: "I usually have the same ones everyone has. Drink more water, exercise, eat healthier … but I just break all of them, so I don’t pressure myself. I’m like, I’m doing enough! If I do any more, I’m going to fall over!"
And while the ‘Hot Pursuit’ star isn’t good at sticking to her annual resolutions, she is very good at preparing a fun-filled Christmas for her family but always ensures that each of her children have a festive chore.
She said: "Ava bakes tons of cookies, Tennessee likes to make waffles with me, and Deacon is such a good helper, he’ll help with anything.
"We have to have Advent calendars. These are things where you think, ‘Oh, they’re not noticing …’ but then I forgot the Advent calendars this year, and Deacon was like, ‘Mom! Where are they?!’ I didn’t realise how important they were to him!"
Reese loves everything about the holiday season but especially enjoys singing carols with her family.
She said: "I love Christmas caroling. I remember bundling up and walking around the neighbourhood. It’s one of my favourite holiday memories from being a kid in Nashville."
