Randy Orton: ‘Wearing next to nothing’ on live TV is intimidating

Randy Orton has admitted "wearing next to nothing every week on live television" can be intimidating.

The 40-year-old superstar claims he used to cover up for his own "insecurities" earlier in his WWE career, which meant he came across as narcissistic.

Speaking to media including BANG Showbiz, he said: "My attitude when I was in my mid-20s, I think I walked around with a chip on my shoulder. I think it came across as me being stuck up or a narcissist.

"I think that was kind of cover for me and my insecurities. And you wouldn’t think it but a lot of the guys and the girls in the WWE locker room are insecure.

"We’re human beings and we’re out there wearing next to nothing every week on live television.

"You have to really discipline your way of life to be in good shape, not only physically but mentally and emotionally."

Randy debuted on screen in 2002 and became the youngest world champion in history at the age of 24, two years later.

Since then, he has grown and he credits a lot of that personal development to his family, and specifically his wife Kimberly Kessler.

He explained: "In my case, I have a very strong wife, but that wasn’t always the case.

"I didn’t have somebody like I do now that I could talk to and would value their opinion at home as far as personal things go, so I was kind of lost in my mid-20s."

Meanwhile, Randy also addressed the future and his recent Twitter feud with NXT wrestler Tommaso Ciampa as he revealed he would be happy to move to WWE’s third brand to help shape the future of the company.

He said: "Yeah, whatever Vince [McMahon] tells me to do, I am going to do it. If it’s working with Tommaso Ciampa then I’d be all for it.

"I think he’s very talented and there’s a few things I can help him with. Mainly, to help him get a little more out of his career."

Randy Orton faces Edge in the ‘Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’ this Sunday (14.06.20) at ‘Backlash’ on the WWE Network.
