Ralf Little: I’m massively proud of my northern roots

Ralf Little feels "massively proud" of his northern roots.
The 40-year-old actor has reunited with his former ‘Royle Family’ co-star Ricky Tomlinson for their new show ‘Ricky And Ralf’s Very Northern Road Trip’, and he hopes the programme will help to remind Brits of the unique charms of northern England.
Ralf – who was born in Oldham, but now lives in the south – told The i newspaper: "Beyond the cliches, you’ll find an incredible depth of art, music, cuisine and an amazing diversity of political and social opinions in the north.
"There is an astonishing heritage and wonderful, rich culture. You don’t have to look very hard to find it. but you might not think to look."
Asked whether he feels proud to be a northerner, Ralf says in the show: "Am I a proud northerner? Yeah, absolutely. It’s a massive part of my identity.
"’The Royle Family’ was such as northern show. Ricky grew up with the Beatles, and I grew up with Oasis. I was so lucky. You couldn’t have hoped to be from a better place."
During their road trip, Ricky and Ralf share memories of their time working with one another.
The northern duo also share a few jokes as they travel around the country.
Discussing the show, Ricky previously said: "People are always going on about exotic holidays here, luxury cruises there, finding your inner-self wherever.
"Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of sun on the Med as much as the next man – but for my money, there’s everything you could ever want on your doorstep here in the north of England – and no better way to see it than in your own home on wheels."
