Rag’n’Bone Man is getting healthier for the sake of his son.
The ‘Human’ hitmaker and his girlfriend Beth welcomed son Reuben into the world 14 weeks ago, and being a father has inspired the singer to exercise more and try to quit smoking.
He said: "Since Reuben was born, I’ve tried to look after myself a bit more. I’ve always been big — I was 6ft even in year 10 — but I’ve never felt unhealthy.
"And it doesn’t worry me from a vanity point of view. But I would like to lose a stone or two for the boy.
"I’ve started swimming in the afternoon and cut down on the smoking — not to mention the ‘recreational’ smoking."
Since becoming a parent, the 32-year-old singer – whose real name is Rory Graham – has become less of a "worrier" and feels more settled.
He told the Sunday Times magazine: "Beth’s always in bed before me. I’ve been a late-night person for years and find it hard to break the habit.
"I’ve always been a bit of a worrier, too. But since the boy arrived, all that has gone. The stuff I used to worry about doesn’t seem to matter any more. I feel settled — and very happy."
While Rag’n’Bone Man tries to do his share of looking after his son, he isn’t great at multitasking.
He said: "My girlfriend, Beth, does the night feeds and I take over at about 7am. Beth’s supposed to go back to bed till lunchtime, but that mother’s instinct kicks in and she’s always coming down to check on him.
"While I’m getting him settled, I try to make a cup of coffee or grab a bowl of cereal.
"Unfortunately, I’ve never been that good at multitasking. One thing I have sorted is hoovering while trying to get Reuben to sleep; he likes the humming sound.
"Beth came down one morning and I was in shorts, a vest and flip-flops, with the boy in one hand and the hoover in the other. All she could say was: ‘The modern man!’ "
