Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith are in talks to reunite for ‘Girl Trip’.
The 46-year-old ‘Miracles From Heaven’ actress and the 44-year-old ‘Gotham’ star, who previously worked together on ‘Set It Off’ in 1996, are set to team up for the first time in 20 years for the romantic comedy film.
According to Deadline, director Malcolm Lee – whose other credits include ‘The Best Man’ – and producer Will Packer (‘Roots’) will oversee the Universal Pictures film.
Scriptwriters Kenya Barris (‘Black-ish’) and Tracy Oliver (‘Barbershop 3’) will deliver a story that focuses on four friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival.
The characters rekindle their sisterhoods, find their wild sides on an adventure that is mixed with drinking, romance and brawling.
The film is set for release on July 21, 2017 by Will Packer Productions (WPP).
WPP motion picture head James Lopez is working on the project as executive producer, with Sara Scott overseeing the film for Universal Pictures.
Meanwhile, it’s not just in front of the camera that Pinkett Smith and Latifah have worked together.
They collaborated as producers on ‘Secret Life’ which also stars Latifah, and they produced ‘Dear Mama’ which Pinkett Smith starred in.
Fans will soon be able to catch Pinkett Smith in ‘Bad Moms’, which is being released on July 29.
