Queen Elizabeth’s race disappointment

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s horses failed to win at Royal Ascot yesterday (17.06.15).

The 89-year-old royal attended the second day of the race meeting with a number of family members, including husband Prince Philip, children Princess Anne and Prince Edward, and daughter-in-law Countess Sophie, but didn’t have much to celebrate as none of the horses she had running did well

The second race of the day saw Ring of Truth only managing to make seventh place in the Queen Mary Stakes, while Touchline – who bookmakers had predicted was the queen’s best chance of success at this week’s meeting – could only finish in third place in the Sandringham Stakes.

Elsewhere, bookmakers were left upset by the monarch’s decision to wear blue to the meeting as, like the day before’s pink outfit, it had been the most-backed colour.

Ladbrokes’ spokesperson Jessica Bridge said: "Needless to say bookies all over the country are feeling blue. For the second day in a row favourite backers are quids in and at this rate we’re going to have to shut up shop.

"Her Majesty loves a true blue number and those who kept the faith are laughing all the way to the bank."
