Queen Elizabeth’s family trip

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will travel to Malta for a state visit in November.

The 89-year-old royal will be joined by her 94-year-old husband Prince Philip, their son Prince Charles, 66 and his wife Duchess Camilla, 68, for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting.

The three-day trip will begin on November 26.

Elizabeth and Philip lived together in Malta in the early 1950s before she became queen.

They also celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on the island.

During their trip they will visit the Malta Racing Club and the Malta Polo Club, where Philip played polo when he served in Malta as a Royal Navy officer.

Last month Queen Elizabeth thanked the nation for "great kindness" as she marked being the longest-serving monarch.

She admitted she never "aspired" to reach the milestone, but was grateful for the "touching messages" her country and those around the world delivered on one of the most historic day in British history.

While opening the new Borders Line Railway in Scotland Elizabeth briefly addressed the day and said: "Many have also kindly noted another significance attaching to today, although it is not one to which I have ever aspired.

"Inevitably, a long life can pass by many milestones; my own is no exception. But I thank you all, and the many others at home and overseas, for your touching messages of great kindness."
