Queen Elizabeth tasted royal regiment packed lunches

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth often "tasted" the King’s Own Scottish Borders regiment’s packed lunches.
Warrant officer John Ross, who served for 25 years protecting the royal family, revealed the head of the British monarchy made it her priority to ensure the food they were given was the best quality and she’d even test out sandwiches herself.
Ross, 61, told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: "The Royal Family were so much fun to work for, they made all the soldiers feel at ease
"One of Her Majesty’s priorities was looking after the welfare of the soldiers who were responsible for providing support for all events.
"She often tasted our packed lunches to check we were being properly looked after before we went out on hunting or fishing trips. She would come to the kitchen and inspect the sandwiches.
"Most were up to scratch, but if they weren’t, they’d be sent back."
Ross was speaking ahead of the royal’s 90th birthday on Thursday (21.04.16), when the Queen will be treated to her own feast including a cake made by ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner Nadiya Hussain.
On hearing she would be given the task, she said: "When I told the kids [I was making a cake for the Queen], the boys were great at keeping it a secret. I told my daughter and she said, ‘Oh Mary Berry? You’ve made loads of cakes for Mary Berry.’"
The sweet treat will be served up at Elizabeth’s birthday celebration at Windsor Castle’s Guildhall.
