Queen Elizabeth gives her ‘deepest sympathy’ to anyone affected by Westminster attack

Queen Elizabeth gives her "deepest sympathy" to anyone affected by the suspected terror attack on Wednesday (22.03.17).
The 90-year-old royal has sent her well wishes and "prayers" to anyone who was injured, or whose loved ones were killed or harmed during the tragic event that took place in Westminster, London, earlier this week, which saw a man mow down a group of people on the bridge before stabbing a police officer to death.
The Royal Family Twitter account took to social media to reach out to the public.
They tweeted: "The Queen: ‘My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are with all those who have been affected by yesterday’s awful violence.’ (sic)"
Following the horrific news the monarch was forced to cancel a visit to the new headquarters of the Metropolitan Police.
Elizabeth was due to officially open the new Scotland Yard on Thursday (23.03.17) alongside her husband Prince Philip but she decided to postpone her visit whilst England’s capital remains on high alert.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: "In light of today’s events the decision has been taken to postpone the Queen’s engagement to New Scotland Yard tomorrow. The visit will be rearranged for a later date."
The Queen was at Buckingham Palace when Westminster fell under attack, which prompted the armed police patrolling the royal residence to secure the gates.
The Queen released a statement, which has been published on Royal.uk explaining and apologising for not attending the event.
It read: "Following the shocking events in Westminster, Prince Philip and I are sorry that we will not be able to open the New Scotland Yard building as planned today, for very understandable reasons. I look forward to visiting at a later date.
My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are with all those who have been affected by yesterday’s awful violence.
I know I speak for everyone in expressing my enduring thanks and admiration for the members of the Metropolitan Police Service and all who work so selflessly to help and protect others.
ELIZABETH R. (sic)."
