Professor Green says he was uncomfortable with the attention surrounding his relationship with former wife Millie Mackintosh.
Although the 32-year-old singer once posted an Instagram picture of his former spouse naked in the bath with just his feet covering her breasts, he claims he hated that their relationship was in the public eye.
When asked by presenter Preeya Kalidas on the BBC’s Asian Network if the attention surrounded their relationship helped his music career, he said: "No, I think it’s of detriment. I think it definitely was to me. When you look at where I was positioned and the world that I then kind of got dragged into unwillingly.
‘I wasn’t naive. I thought there would be a bit of it, but I didn’t think it would become what it did.
"I don’t sell my relationships. That’s not me. I’m not parading my relationships and I will never do that again. I will never ever, ever put myself in that position again where a relationship becomes…that’s not happening."
Millie, 27, quickly rekindled her relationship with ex-boyfriend Hugo Taylor after her marriage to Professor Green ended in February but he has insisted that his new record won’t be a heartbreak album.
He said: "You know, I’m not Adele. I’m not going to make a heartbreak album. I’m much more focused on looking forward."
And while he has been linked to Rita Ora, he refused to answer when Preeya questioned him on their reported romance.
He said: "Don’t know what you’re on about mate? For as long as there’s plausible deniability. You’re cheeky you are.
"I haven’t gone red, I definitely haven’t gone red. Don’t say it because people can’t see me. I’ve gone green, I’m wearing green, I am green, er gangrene!"
