Britain’s Prince Harry kicked off his tour of Brazil with a hospital visit.
The 29-year-old royal charmed locals on the first day of his week-long tour of South America yesterday (23.06.14) as he laughed and joked with patients at the Rede Sarah facility in Brasilia.
The hospital is one of 10 across the country specialising in treating victims of serious brain injuries and other neurological problems, and Harry got stuck in by helping during a game of wheelchair basketball to aid their recovery.
The jovial redhead also paddled around a lake in a three-man canoe as he was shown how the activity can be beneficial to patients.
Neuroscientist Lucia Braga, the network’s president, took Harry on a tour of the facilities, where he spent time chatting with patients and their families as well as members of staff.
The fourth in line to the throne was able to forgo wearing a suit jacket and tie due to the hot and humid weather conditions in Brazil.
Harry’s official visit has been organised to enhance the partnership between the UK, Brazil and Chile.
The royal is scheduled to find out about an environmental project to help protect the Atlantic Rainforest, meet with an NGO which provides emergency housing poverty-stricken people and visit a social project to help reduce drug abuse, among many other activities.
