Prince Harry is appointed as new Captain General of the Royal Marines

Queen Elizabeth has approved of Prince Harry’s appointment as the Captain General of the Royal Marines.
The British monarch’s grandson is set to replace her husband Prince Philip as Captain General as the Duke of Edinburgh steps down from royal duties.
Prince Harry was with Prince Philip on Tuesday afternoon (19.12.17) as the pair celebrated both the incoming and outgoing Commandants General during a reception at Buckingham Palace.
It marks Prince Philip’s last duty as Captain General, a position he has held since 1953. He was given this role over six decades ago, taking over from the Queen’s father, King George VI.
A statement released from Kensington Palace on their official Twitter account reads: "The Queen has approved the appointment of Prince Harry as Captain General Royal Marines in succession to The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Harry accompanied The Duke in his final duty as Captain General today, as Their Royal Highnesses received the incoming and outgoing Commandants General @RoyalMarines at Buckingham Palace. (sic)"
Whilst a series of tweets on The Royal Family’s official page added: "In his final duty as Captain General, The Duke received Major General Robert Magowan, Commandant General Royal Marines & Major General Charles Stickland, Commandant General Royal Marines Designate. Prince Harry was also present.
"The Duke’s association with the @RoyalMarines dates back 64 years to 2 June 1953, when he was appointed Captain General in succession to The Queen’s father, King George VI … Prince Harry served in the Army for 10 years, rising to the rank of Captain and undertaking two tours of Afghanistan. HRH continues to work in support of his fellow servicemen, promoting support for wounded men and women as they adapt to life post-injury."
