Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla kick off New Zealand tour

Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla are to kick off their tour of New Zealand tomorrow (04.11.15).

The royal couple, who haven’t visited the country for three years, will start their seven-day trip by attending a welcome ceremony at the Government House in Wellington.

They will then head to Pukeahu National War Memorial Park to unveil a Commonwealth Walkway Plaque, lay a wreath at the Hall of Memories and meet members of the public.

The pair, who got married in 2005, will then make their way to Dunedin, Nelson, Westport, Ngaruawahia, New Plymouth and Auckland, before heading home to London celebrate Prince Charles’ 66th birthday with his family.

Meanwhile, residents of Taranaki, New Plymouth, can’t wait for the pair to arrive in the North of the island after they bypassed it during their last tour.

New Plymouth Mayor, Andrew Judd, said previously: "They haven’t truly visited the country if they don’t come to Taranaki. There’s just so much to see and enjoy."

The couple’s trip comes just six months after Charles’ youngest son Prince Harry, 31, flew to New Zealand in May for a short week-long visit.

His eldest son Prince William, 33, his wife Duchess Catherine, 33, and their two-year-old son Prince George also paid a visit to the country in 2014 for a 10-day tour.

However, Taranaki residents haven’t received a visit from the member of the royal family since Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip stopped by in 1954.
