Prince Charles will celebrate his 70th birthday with a special TV magic show.
The extravaganza, entitled ‘We Are Most Amused and Amazed’, will be held at the London Palladium and broadcast on ITV, and feature some of the UK’s finest magicians to mark the milestone and pay tribute to the Prince of Wales’ love of the art form.
ITV said in a statement: "[It will be] a truly unique and unforgettable night where the world’s greatest comics join forces with the most accomplished of magicians to celebrate The Prince of Wales’s 70th birthday."
Charles has been a member of the Magic Circle since 1975, and so it is fitting that his birthday – officially on November 18 – will be celebrated with such a show.
Although the line-up is yet to be confirmed, organisers have promised the show will feature top magicians, alongside "giants" of the comedy circuit.
Viewers can expect "a cast of comedy giants take to the stage, but will also showcase the best jaw-dropping illusions from the greatest magicians in the business".
It’s thought that superstar magician Dynamo will be the star of the show, having received funding from The Prince’s Trust.
He previously said of the charity: "When I said I wanted to be a magician they didn’t laugh in my face as so many others had done, they gave me the help I needed."
Charles was made a member of the Magic Circle 43 years ago, when he performed a "disappearing trick with cups and balls".
The stunt earned him his membership at the secretive society’s headquarters, but Clarence House has refused to comment on whether he will have any tricks up his sleeve for the nation as part of the TV special.
