Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have welcomed their first child.
Sofia- who married the prince in June 2015 – gave birth on Tuesday (19.04.16) but the gender of the child has not yet been revealed.
Sweden’s Royal Palace said in a statement: "Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy and prosperous child on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:25 p.m. Both mother and child are doing well."
She is believed to have given birth at Danderyd Hospital just outside of Stockholm.
The couple announced in October that they were expecting their first child together.
An announcement from the Swedish Royal Court stated: "Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are delighted to announce that The Princess is expecting their first child. The birth is expected to take place in April of 2016."
The couple said: "We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it."
Carl Philip, 36 and 31-year-old Sofia recently moved out of their apartment in Stockholm’s Djurgarden in order to live in in Sjöpaviljongen, a detached two-story home located on the grounds of the royal palace.
They are expected to live there for a year while renovations on their home Villa Solbacken in Djurgarden are being completed.
