The 54-year-old TV presenter was furious after the ITV breakfast show’s two nominations in the News Coverage category were not shown during the main programme on Sunday night (12.05.19), and he launched into a rant on air the following morning.
As co-host Susanna Reid nodded in agreement, he said: "Shame on the BBC … You wouldn’t have known ‘GMB’ got nominated.
"We never got mentioned during the two-hour, incredibly boring, show. If you sat through that and are still alive good luck to you. How they get through it, those luvvies, I have no idea."
Although ‘Good Morning Britain’ had half of the spots on the shortlist – for its ‘On A Knife Edge?’ and ‘Thomas Markle Exclusive’ broadcasts – the programme lost out to the Cambridge Analytica Uncovered Production Team for ITN/ Channel 4.
In a clip shown from the ceremony, Piers looked incredibly disappointed when the winner was announced.
Commenting on a perceived lack of coverage – with the nomination only referenced on YouTube rather than the main show – he added: "It’s a travesty. We were up for half the awards.
"’Good Morning’ Britain was the first-ever breakfast show to be nominated for that coveted award. But it didn’t make the main show.
"Churlish, pathetic and spineless by the BBC. I’m on to you … shame on the BBC. You’ve got to explain yourselves.
"Just because the rival ‘BBC Breakfast’ show wasn’t nominated. We got half of the news coverage nominations. They just airbrushed it out of the whole thing. Like it didn’t happen."
