‘Fleabag’ star Phoebe Waller-Bridge is reportedly set for a role in the ‘Star Wars’ Han Solo anthology movie.
According to Variety, the 31-year-old British actress is in talks to play a "CGI-driven" character that will be a key part of the ensemble cast similar to ever-popular droid C-3P0.
A source told the publication: "It is CGI-driven … but still a significant part of the ensemble, similarly to key ‘Star Wars’ characters in the past like Chewbacca, C-3P0 and most recently, Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO in ‘Rogue One’.
The movie is to focus on the early days of space smuggler Han with Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role which was originally played by Harrison Ford in four films in the main franchise.
Other confirmed cast members include Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson playing a mentor to Han and ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke in an as-yet unknown role.
‘The Lego Movie’ directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are taking control of the project which has already started shooting.
As well as appearing in comedy series ‘Fleabag’, Phoebe has also appeared in several TV shows including ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Crashing’ and ‘Bad Education’ and had minor roles in the films ‘The Iron Lady’ and ‘Albert Nobbs’.
The Han Solo movie follows on from Disney and Lucasfilm’s first anthology film ‘Rogue One’, which told the story of how the Rebel Alliance stole the plans for the Empire’s super-weapon the Death Star and was set between the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’.
The Han Solo spin-off is believed to be set several years before Han met Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in ‘A New Hope’, eventually aiding them to fight Darth Vader and the Empire.
It is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
