Peter Kay’s ‘Car Share’ is to return for another series.
The BBC iPlayer comedy, which nabbed the actor a BAFTA gong for the Male Performance in a Comedy Programme category, has been given the go-ahead for a second installment after it proved a huge hit by receiving three million streams in its first four days of going online.
Peter can’t wait to reprise his role as supermarket assistant manager John Redmon alongside Sian Gibson’s alter-ego promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson for the next series.
He gushed: "What a joy to be working on the second series of ‘Car Share’ with the wonderful Sian Gibson. The success of the first series has been completely overwhelming."
Sian added: "I’m really excited that ‘Car Share’ is coming back. We had so much fun making the first series and I can’t wait to be Kayleigh Kitson again."
The sitcom, which is set in John’s car, follows the story of the store manager and Kayleigh as they start to fall for one another during their journey to work and almost lock lips.
John even made a compilation CD for Kayleigh of the songs the friends loved to listen to on their journeys.
The new series will be filmed this summer and is scheduled to air on iPlayer next year.
