Penelope Cruz will star in ‘Layover’.
The 42-year-old actress has been cast in the reinvention drama, an adaptation of Lisa Zeidner’s 1999 novel which will be written and directed by Toni Kalem.
Penelope will also produce the movie along with Jim Young from Animus Films and Tatiana Kelly from Serena Films.
Tatiana said: "Toni Kalem’s beautifully layered adaptation of Lisa Zeidner’s acclaimed book is a provocative blend of humour and heartbreak. With the addition of the incomparable Penelope Cruz to our team, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase such strong female talent both in front of and behind the camera."
‘Layover’ tells the story of Claire Newbold (Cruz), a grieving saleswoman who opts out of her normal life and starts squatting in hotel rooms after her husband cheats on her and she loses a child.
Executive producer Nadine de Barros added: "We are looking forward to working with the outstanding Penelope Cruz on this film both on screen and behind the scenes. Toni is the perfect match to direct this project and bring a strong woman’s perspective to this personal and enthralling story of escape and self-discovery."
