Peaky Blinders lead TV Choice Awards nominations

‘Peaky Blinders’ lead the TV Choice Awards nominations with a hat-trick of nods.
The BBC Two show is up for Best Drama Series alongside ‘Doctor Foster’, ‘Outlander’ and ‘Poldark’, and the crime drama’s Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.
Cillian will face still competition from Poldark’s Aidan Turner, William Beck (‘Casualty’) and Doc Martin’s Martin Clunes, while Helen will go up against Michelle Keegan (‘Our Girl’), Call The Midwife’s Linda Bassett and ‘Vera’ actress Brenda Blethyn.
‘Casualty’, ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Call The Midwife’ are all up against one another in the Best Family Drama category alongside the Keeley Hawes-led ‘The Durrells’, but she missed out on a Best Actress nom.
‘Love Island’ bagged its highest-ever ratings for a launch episode of the show earlier this month when 3.4 million tuned in, and the ITV2 series has plenty more to celebrate after the programme was nominated for Best Reality Show.
But they will face stiff competition from Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly’s ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, ‘The Island With Bear Grylls’/ ‘Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls’, and ‘First Dates’/ ‘First Dates Hotel’.
Dec had to host the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ live episodes alone after his co-host and pal Ant took some time off to deal with his issues following a drink-driving conviction, and the programme’s efforts have earned them a nod in the Best Talent Show section.
They will go up against the recently returned ‘Dancing on Ice’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘The Great British Bake Off’, but Simon Cowell will have to make do with the ‘BGT’ nod after ‘The X Factor’ was snubbed.
ITV dominate the Best Daytime Show category with ‘The Chase’, ‘Loose WOmen’ and ‘This Morning’ set to do battle against ‘Pointless’, and the channel’s sitcom ‘Benidorm’ and ‘The Keith & Paddy Picture Show’ are up against ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Not Going Out’ for Best Comedy.
Keith Lemon, who co-stars in the sketch show alongside Paddy McGuinness, took to Twitter to show his delight at the recognition.
He wrote: "Hurrraaah! The Keith & Paddy Picture Show and Celebrity Juice are up for a tv Choice award! Voting is open now! Big Fanks! (sic)"
Other noms saw ‘Coronation Street’ pick up six nods in the four soap categories, including Best Actor for Shayne Ward and Jack P. Shepherd, and Best Actress for Lucy Fallon and Catherine Tyldesley.
The TV Choice awards will take place at The Dorchester in central London on September 10.
