Paula Tilbrook once blasted Danny Miller for being late on Emmerdale

Danny Miller was once blasted by Paula Tilbrook for being late on the ‘Emmerdale’ set.

The 29-year-old actor – who has played Aaron Dingle since 2008 – starred opposite the late soap legend, who has passed away aged 89, and he admitted the Betty Eagleton actress once "rightly" gave him a stern telling off after he turned up late for a scene and was subsequently "unprepared".

He wrote on Twitter: "Having only just seen the devastating news of the passing of our beautiful & elegant Paula Tilbrook. I’ll never forget the b********* (rightly so) she gave me having been late – & so consequently, unprepared. (sic)"

Danny revealed Paula said to him at the time: "Fail to prepare. Prepare to fail chuck! Now let’s get on wi it! (sic)"

Paula is known as one of the legendary Dales stars after portraying village gossip Betty from 1994 to 2015 on the ITV soap.

As well as her love of all things tittle tattle, Paula’s character Betty was known for her strong relationship with Seth Armstrong, who was played by Stan Richards, who passed away in 2005 aged 74.

Betty was last mentioned on the soap in February this year when she rang Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) to inform her that her father-in-law, Sandy Thomas – played by Freddie Jones, who passed away in July 2019 aged 91 – had died.

Her final scenes in the village aired in May 2015, but the character returned once more for a cameo appearance via video call on Christmas Day that year.

Paula announced her retirement alongside her Dales departure, and the star admitted at the time it was her "saddest and happiest" day of her life.

Speaking in 2015, she said: "I have been at ‘Emmerdale’ for 21 years and I’ve loved every moment.

"Today is both the saddest and the happiest day of my life.

"Happy because I’ve got everyone here with me but the sad part is I’m leaving.

"But there is a great atmosphere and it is nice to go out on a high."

Kate Oates – who was series producer at ‘Emmerdale’ in 2015 – said at the time: "It’s impossible to overstate how much everyone at ‘Emmerdale’ will miss Paula.

"In Betty, she’s created a British television icon: someone who has lit up our screens and touched our hearts.

"Off screen, she is an integral part of the Emmerdale family: an inspiration to those she works with, as well as a fabulous raconteur and hilarious storyteller.

"We are sad to lose her from the programme, but wish her the happy retirement she so deserves."
