Paul Hollywood was "horrified" when Prue Leith revealed ‘The Great British Bake Off’ winner before the final had aired.
The 51-year-old chef’s fellow judge made a major gaffe when she tweeted that Sophie Faldo had prevailed in the finale, nearly 12 hours before the episode aired, and while Paul was shocked by the error, he admitted the 77-year-old restaurateur had made a mistake.
Speaking on spin-off show, ‘The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice’, he said: "What can I say? I was horrified. But at the same time, she made a mistake."
‘Bake Off: An Extra Slice’ host Jo Brand couldn’t resist poking fun at Prue as she joked the co-judge "couldn’t be here, as she is too busy deleting her Twitter account".
Prue blamed her erroneous tweet on the time difference because she was in Bhutan, and later took to Twitter to apologise to ‘Bake Off’ fans, admitting she was "mortified" by the gaffe.
She tweeted: "I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error #GBBO. (sic)"
In her mistaken tweet, Prue revealed it had been "so emotional" working on the Channel 4 show before revealing Sophie had triumphed.
She wrote: "No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie (sic)"
While she deleted the tweet within seconds, it was too late for some who had already seen it.
Despite the blunder, Prue also revealed she, fellow judge Paul, 51, and co-hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will return for another series.
Alongside a link leading to contestant application forms for the next series, Prue said this morning: "It’s the #GBBO final! Who will win? Thrilled to say Paul, Noel Sandi & I will all be back! Do you want to join us? (sic)"
