Paul Hollywood doesn’t get to do much baking anymore.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge may have made a name for himself getting his hands dirty in the kitchen but he has admitted his hobby had taken a back seat for a while until he shot his new travel series ‘Paul Hollywood City Bakes’.
Asked what drew him to the concept of the show, he told BANG Showbiz: "What I especially loved about this show was that I got the chance to get my hands dirty and really get involved in the baking, which is something I rarely get to do these days. The public love baking and it’s become such a popular hobby. For me, it’s great having the chance to share my experience of baking with people and to help them learn."
Paul was inspired to start baking when he watched his father succeed at his career but he’s adamant his son Josh, 14, won’t be going down the same route if he can help it.
He explained: "I grew up surrounded by baking and spent a lot of my time in different bakeries. I knew it was hard work and I wasn’t sure if I wanted those early starts so I fought against it for a while, but in the end I gave in and I’ve never looked back … We certainly don’t need another baker in the house. You know what they say, too many cooks and all that."
‘Paul Hollywood City Bakes’ is a one-off mini-series that sees the celebrity chef travel around the world and taste the cities’ renowned pastries and freshly-baked bread.
The mouth-watering show returns to screens next Monday (25.04.16) on Food Network at 9pm.
