Pam St. Clement is set to return to ‘Casualty’ next month.
The 74-year-old actress – who was known for playing big-earring lover Pat Butcher in the long-running soap ‘EastEnders’ until her alter ego’s tragic death in 2011 – will reprise her role as Sally Hodge in the medical drama series within the next few weeks.
Although producers are remaining tight lipped on how long the moody patient will be around for, it’s known that her dash to accident and emergency is caused by an explosion.
The series producer Erika Hossington told Inside Soap magazine: "Pam St Clement is returning. Her character literally causes an explosion, and that will be airing in March."
Pam first made an appearance in the popular show last August when she guest-starred in the feature-length special episode ‘Too Old for This Shift’ and her miserable character wreaked havoc for head nurse Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson).
Despite their fraught relationship at first, the pair managed to bond when it became apparent her abdominal pain was caused by lithopaedion – a rare phenomenon which occurs most commonly when a foetus dies during an abdominal pregnancy and the body fails to remove it naturally – and she informed him of her traumatic past.
Sally tearfully told Charlie that she had fallen pregnant as a youngster and self-aborted her child, while telling people at the time that she had actually miscarried.
Meanwhile, Pam’s return isn’t the only thing bosses have in the pipeline as Erika has also teased that there will be a huge factory fire and a major incident inside the hospital.
She explained: "Other than that, we have a factory fire coming up, and a stunt late on in April where someone gets run over. This will be shocking because of who it is. We’re also planning a really big falling stunt from within the hospital towards the end of the series."
