Countess of Wessex in tears after meeting life-saving midwives

Britain's Countess of Wessex was reduced to tears yesterday (18.03.14) when she met the midwives who saved her life.
The 49-year-old royal broke down as she visited Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey and met the medical staff who delivered her daughter Lady Louise Windsor in November 2003.
The countess was rushed to hospital at eight months pregnant and had an emergency caesarean section after suffering a placental abruption, which caused her to lose a dangerous amount of blood.
During a speech yesterday, she said: "Thank you for inviting me here, it is good to be back in happier circumstances.
"On behalf of the thousands of families you have helped I would like to say thank you and congratulations on raising the money for this fantastic facility.
"The service you provide is paramount and can literally make the difference between life and death, I can attest to that. It is rare to have the opportunity to thank people for the huge difference they have made at an important time in your life so I am so pleased to be here and to be able to say thank you in person."
Sophie was back at the NHS hospital to open a new neonatal unit, where she got to meet new mothers and their babies.
The visit is the first time she's returned to the hospital since she delivered her son Viscount Severn in 2007.
A royal aide said: "It was the first time Her Royal Highness had been to the baby unit since having the children and it clearly brought back some memories."

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla open children’s hospital

Britain's Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla opened Chelsea Children's Hospital yesterday (18.03.14).
The royal couple visited the state-of-the-art facility at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, where they had a chance to meet patients and staff and check out a new piece of medical equipment.
The Duchess had a cuddle with 10-month-old Maijed Dhaif, who was born 26 weeks premature and requires intravenous feeding due to gastroenteritis issues, when he yanked out her earring.
However, the 66-year-old royal, who has two children and five grandchildren, made light of the situation by telling staff that the fancy jewellery wasn't actually attached through her ear.
She said: "Don't worry, it's a clip on."
Camilla had a beaming smile on her face as she cradled the tot and claimed he reminded her of her stepson Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine's child Prince George.
She said: "Holding him like this reminds me of George."
The pair then moved on to a different section of the facility, which cares for more than 75,000 children every year, where they met surgeons operating the UK's only paediatric da Vinci robot.
The clever machine can move its arm, just like the human wrist, which allows operations to be carried out with more precision and less potential damage to the tissue.
While unveiling the plaque to officially open the clinic, Prince Charles said: "We are so delighted to come and join you on this occasion. We both worried a great deal that we'd caused enough disruption to the smooth running of this hospital for one day."

Prince William is a fan of The Apprentice

Britain's Prince William admits he's a fan of 'The Apprentice'.
The 31-year-old royal presented Karren Brady, who worked as a co-star alongside Lord Sugar on the show, with a CBE yesterday (18.03.14) at Buckingham Palace in London, but he couldn't help but ask when the reality programme would be back on screens.
Karren is quoted by the Daily Express newspaper as saying: "He asked me when 'The Apprentice' was coming back on. I know that he and the Duchess of Cambridge are big fans of the show."
Karren - who is the vice chairman of West Ham United Football Club - told William that the show would be back on TV in the autumn, and then they both engaged in an intense soccer chat.
She explained: "The Duke of Cambridge is a fanatical football fan. He was still very pleased that his team, Aston Villa, beat Chelsea. So we had a good talk about that.
"He asked me if I would like to leave West Ham and go and work for Aston Villa. Unfortunately, I said not."
The businesswoman also admitted she didn't tell her family about receiving the honour and they only found out when they read it in the newspaper.
She said "It has been difficult over the 20 years, things are getting better. But I think if women like me don't campaign for other women who's going to do it, so I take it seriously."

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge donate £5K to flood victims

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge donated £5,000 to the flood victims of Rhyl.
The royal couple, who used to live in Anglesey, gave the generous amount to the Rhyl Flood Appeal after 150 homes in Wales were destroyed during the battering storms in December.
The mayor of Rhyl, Andrew Rutherford, said he was "gobsmacked" to receive the private donation from William and Catherine.
He said a letter sent on behalf of the pair read: "The Duke and Duchess realise that it is a long, slow and painful process for the many people displaced from their homes and as a token of their support, and to show the people of Rhyl that they are in their thoughts, Their Royal Highnesses would like to make a personal donation to your Rhyl Town Mayor's Flood Appeal."
Many families are still living in temporary accommodation while repairs are being carried out on their properties.
At the time, Andrew said other families, who initially thought they had escaped the floods, had since discovered the sea water had damaged the building foundations.
He said in December: "All the water that has gone over has actually gone under their houses and they have had to have their foundations taken up.
"A couple of them have had to move out so that they can have their footings replaced and floorboards done.
"So we are still getting snippets about people who are being affected, even now, so it's quite hard."

EastEnders’ Alice Branning to be found not guilty

'EastEnders' character Alice Branning will be found not guilty of murdering Michael Moon.
Alice, who is on trial for Michael's murder along with Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), will be declared innocent in Thursday's (20.03.14) episode of the BBC One soap.
In a preview clip posted on the 'EastEnders' website, Alice's uncle Max Branning (Jake Wood) and aunt Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson) breathe a sigh of relief as the trial jury reveals one of its two verdicts.
However, it remains to be seen whether Janine will also be declared innocent, or face life imprisonment.
The judge asks the jury: "On the second charge of murder, do you find the defendant, Janine, guilty or not guilty?"
Alice - played by Jasmyn Banks - was wrongfully jailed for murdering Michael last October after coming to Janine's defence during a brutal domestic fight. While she did attack Michael, it was Janine who delivered the deadly blow to her husband.
Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) was recently called as a witness against Alice in the trial after striking a deal with Janine to give false testimony in exchange for Janine dropping charges against her cousin Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner), who she accused of stabbing her in 2010, resulting in Stacey fleeing the country.
Tuesday's (18.03.14) episode saw Kat attempt to maintain her end of the deal by testifying against Alice, but it's unclear if she will go through with the plan.

Cheryl Cole to perform on Britain’s Got Talent

Simon Cowell has asked Cheryl Cole to perform on 'Britain's Got Talent'.
The 30-year-old popstar has been inundated with offers from various shows to make her musical comeback, but she is said to be considering a "tempting" offer from Simon, 54, as a perk stemming from her return to 'The X Factor' judging panel this year.
A source said: "Simon has offered her a very tempting spot on the show and it would be a massive draw for the series to land her first live performance in a couple of years."
Cheryl is keen to impress and she has been working hard on her fourth studio album, although she hasn't decided which song will be promoted on the show.
The source added: "Cheryl has been offered all major TV shows to perform her first single."
It's reported that if Cheryl's new single isn't ready in time for 'Britain's Got Talent', she will have first pick for a live performance slot when 'X Factor' returns later this year.
Meanwhile, the 'Call My Name' hitmaker is continuing to advise Simon Cowell on who should join them on the panel and is eager to hire a music industry professional.
Songwriter Amanda Ghost - who co-wrote James Blunt's 2004 hit 'You're Beautiful' - and Sia Furler, who has written songs for the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Katy Perry, are among the names being considered.
Cheryl also has her eye on Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie as they reportedly grew close when she supported the group on tour.

EastEnders casts disabled character

'EastEnders' is to introduce a new disabled character.
Former 'Grange Hill' actress Lisa Hammond will play tough market trader Donna Yates, who declares war on stall holders Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer) and Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace), and the 31-year-old star is looking forward to playing a "bad" character.
She said: "I'm really excited to join 'EastEnders'. Donna is a bit of a handful but they are always the most fun characters - it feels good to be bad."
Donna wasn't originally written as a wheelchair-bound character, but Lisa - who has a restricted growth condition - won over producers with her audition, and show boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins is delighted to have her on board as the "flinty, aggressive and difficult" stall holder.
He added: "Donna's not an easy character to like at first. As we get to know her better, we will discover a funny, loyal but also fragile woman underneath.
"Lisa is a brilliantly comic and sharp actress. We have been trying to get her into the 'EastEnders' cast for a long time so I am delighted."
Donna is the second regular disabled character to appear on Albert Square, following Adam Best (David Proud), who appeared from 2009 to 2010.
Lisa began her career at the age of 13 and has also starred in 'Pyschoville', 'Bleak House' and 'Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere'.

Kelly Brook tipped for Celebrity Juice return

Kelly Brook is tipped to return to 'Celebrity Juice' when Holly Willoughby goes on maternity leave.
The 34-year-old model is being lined up to serve as a team captain on the ITV2 panel show once again when Holly, 33, takes a leave of absence to welcome her third child with husband Dan Baldwin later this year.
Kelly replaced Fearne Cotton on the ninth series of 'Celebrity Juice' while the star was on maternity leave after giving birth to son Rex in February 2013.
Speaking at the RTS Programme Awards in London last night (18.03.14), host Keith Lemon told BANG Showbiz: "Kelly did an amazing job, so it'll probably be Kelly, I expect.
"I've heard Kelly, but I don't know. I don't care [who it is]. It makes sense for Kelly 'cos she did a good job first time round."
Keith also revealed it was former Westlife star Kian Egan who first alerted him to Holly's pregnancy when they filmed last week's episode of the show.
He added: "Kian Egan, he said to me, 'Have Holly's boobs got bigger?' I said, 'I don't know ... what do you think I am, some kind of pervert? She's probably pregnant.' The next day she called me and said, 'I've got something to tell you.' I went, 'I know what you're going to say...'
"I said, 'Me and Kian Egan were talking about it. I'm really happy for you.' But if it were me I'd set myself on fire. Three kids? Good luck!"
Keith admits he would end 'Celebrity Juice' temporarily if both Fearne and Holly were to fall pregnant at the same time.
He said: "If Fearne got up the duff and they both left, I'd say, 'Let's have a break and start again when you both come back.' It's only 'Celebrity Juice' when the girls are there."
