Oprah Winfrey reveals Prince Harry offered to make mental health series with her

Oprah Winfrey says the Duke of Sussex offered to get involved in her mental health docu-series ‘The Me You Can’t See’.

The talk show legend – who sat down with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex for their bombshell tell-all interview this year – was discussing what she was doing with the project with Harry and he offered to help in any way he could, after telling her he believed the two most important issues in the world are “climate change and mental health”.

Speaking on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, Oprah, 67, said: “He is just fantastic. From the very first moment, we had a conversation about what were the two most important issues in the world. I asked him and he said, climate change and mental health. I started telling him about the series I was working on.

“As I turned to walk away he said, ‘Well if you ever need any help with that series’. I said, ‘What did you just say? Do I need any help?'”

Prince Harry and Oprah’s series will premiere on Apple TV+ on May 21.

The programme – which was co-created and executive produced by Harry and Oprah – centres on the issues of mental health and wellbeing by focusing on stories of well-known people, including singer Lady Gaga and ‘Fatal Attraction’ actress Glenn Close.

Announcing the project, Oprah – who is determined to fight the stigmas surrounding mental health – said: “Now more than ever, there is an immediate need to replace the shame surrounding mental health with wisdom, compassion, and honesty. Our series aims to spark that global conversation.”

While 36-year-old Harry – whose mother Princess Diana died when he was just 12 years old – observed that the “majority” of people carry some form of “unresolved trauma, loss or grief”.

He said: “We are born into different lives, brought up in different environments, and as a result are exposed to different experiences. But our shared experience is that we are all human.

“The majority of us carry some form of unresolved trauma, loss, or grief, which feels – and is – very personal. Yet the last year has shown us that we are all in this together, and my hope is that this series will show there is power in vulnerability, connection in empathy, and strength in honesty.”

The producers of the upcoming series joined forces with 14 accredited and respected mental health experts, as well as various mental health organisations, to help make the show.
