Olly Alexander wants same-sex Strictly partnership

Olly Alexander would compete on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – if he was partnered by a "big man".
The Years and Years singer is open to making a bid for the glitterball trophy but only if he was given a professional partner of the same gender.
Asked if he’d compete on the show, the openly-gay star said: "I’d want a guy partner. I need a big man to spin me around."
And asked if he was promised a male partner, would he accept, he added on ‘Sunday Brunch’: Well, why not?"
Olly’s comments come after Dr. Ranj Singh, who will compete when the show returns next month, admitted he wanted a male dance partner and thought it was "incredibly important" for the show to start including same-sex couples.
He said: "I would value a time when same sex couples could dance on shows like Strictly. It is incredibly important."
While show bosses have insisted there are "no plans" to make the move, many of the judges have backed the call for same sex couples.
Head judge Shirley Ballas recently said: "I think things are changing, and I couldn’t think of anything more exciting. I’m for it!"
And Craig Revel Horwood spoke of his "hope" that same-sex couples will feature on the show in the near future.
He said last year: "I think same-sex couples can exist. You only have to decide who’s going to go backwards really, that’s the only difference.
"I really hope [it happens]. In the world of competition there are same-sex couples … so there’s no reason why that can’t happen."
Fellow judge Bruno Toniloi added: "I think you’d have to find the right contestants, but absolutely. Two girls, two boys, why not? I think it would be fantastic."
Professional dancer Kevin Clifton has confirmed he wouldn’t have a problem if he was given a male celebrity to partner on the programme.
Asked about the possibility on Twitter, he said: "Just to be clear I’m not involved in any of these decisions. But if that’s what they wanted then I’d have no problem with it."
