Olivia Bromley expecting ‘hate’ from fans over Emmerdale storyline

Olivia Bromley is expecting "a bit of hate" from fans over her ‘Emmerdale’ storyline.
The actress currently stars in the ITV soap as Dawn Taylor, and has admitted fans could be left feeling angered by her current storyline, which sees Dawn continue to help her father Will – played by Dean Andrews – with his evil revenge plan.
Recent episodes have shown Dawn plot with her father, who’s stalking Harriet Finch (played by Katherine Dow Blyton) as part of his malicious plan.
Dawn has grown close to Harriet over the past few months in order to do Will’s dirty work, and has even lied that he’s dead in order to throw her off the scent.
But as things progress, Olivia knows her character is in for a bumpy ride when it comes to fan reactions, and is well prepared for the "hate" she might get thanks to Dawn’s actions.
Asked about the possibility of ‘Emmerdale’ fans turning against Dawn, Olivia said: "They probably will. But that doesn’t bother me as an actor, because I think it’s fun to play these parts where you’re not always going to be popular.
"A real character has these flaws and Dawn is a really complicated character. What’s been really nice about what I’ve done so far is that when I came in, Dawn wasn’t exactly likeable. She was hard, she was a heroin addict and people weren’t sure of her.
"She was also involved with Ross, who is a very popular character and she was dragging him down a bit. Then people were slowly starting to warm to her, which has been really nice because it’s been a little bit less judgemental.
"Now I’m sure there will be a bit of hate! But it’s real stories and no-one’s perfect."
Next week’s episodes are set to see Dawn start to have second thoughts over the way Will is treating Harriet, but is pushed to prove her loyalty with a shocking demand.
Speaking to DigitalSpy, Olivia said: "Dawn is torn throughout the whole thing, really, but her loyalty is with her father. She has held to that while he’s been in prison.
"The whole reason that she came back to the village was to get revenge on Harriet, so the whole way through, she has had this nagging feeling.
"But I don’t think she expected to connect with Harriet in the way she did. Especially there is the issue with her son, because Harriet can help her out in that way. Harriet has been so good to her that Dawn has realised: ‘I’m not the one who wants this revenge, it’s my dad’."
