Noel Gallagher pays tribute to Caroline Aherne

Noel Gallagher has paid tribute to Caroline Aherne.
The former Oasis singer has dedicated the song ‘Half the World Away’ , which was the theme tune to the comedy television series ‘The Royle Family’, to the late actress – who played Denise Best in the hit show – who died from cancer aged 52 on Saturday (02.07.16).
The 49-year-old singer songwriter performed the track during a concert with his band High Flying Birds at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium yesterday. Speaking at the gig, he said: "I want to dedicate the next song to a friend of mine who died this afternoon.
"Her name was Caroline and she was a very very very funny woman.
"She used this next song on a very very very very brilliant sit com in England called ‘The Royle Family’.
"So wherever you are."
The musician also took to social media to remember the television personality for her success at making people laugh.
Alongside a picture of the blonde star posted to his Instagram account, he wrote: "RIP Kaz… I shall sing for you tonight. (My god you made us laugh!) (sic)."
Caroline was also known for her work in ‘The Mrs Merton Show’ and ‘The Fast Show’ and most recently, she narrated the Channel 4 reality TV series ‘Gogglebox’.
And TV presenter Piers Morgan has also been among stars to take to pay tribute to Caroline. He tweeted: "RIP Caroline Aherne, 52. Another brilliant talent gone far too soon. Her Mrs Merton character was comedy genius (sic)."
Meanwhile, Caroline and her brother Patrick were both born with retina cancer and she later suffered from the disease in her bladder and her lungs. She took time out from ‘Gogglebox’ to reportedly fight throat cancer but returned to the show earlier this year.
Speaking in 2014, she said: "My brother and I were born with cancer of the eyes, the retina, my mum told us only special people get cancer. I must be very special because I have had it in my lungs and bladder as well."
Caroline was married to Peter Hook of the rock band New Order from 1994 until 1997.
