Nikki Sanderson "hates" making red carpet appearances.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actress – who plays Maxine Minniver in the Channel 4 soap – often graces red carpet events including award ceremonies, but has insisted she always feels "nervous and uncomfortable" whilst posing for photos and meeting people gathered outside.
Posting a professional photo of herself from a red carpet event on Instagram, the 35-year-old actress wrote: "Anyone who knows me, knows that even after over 20 years of doing it, I HATE walking the red carpet… I get nervous and uncomfortable, and pretty much always feel awkward… wouldn’t swap it though as I love what I do and I’m grateful to be there… but… Look at my face…. definition of smiling on the outside, thinking "what the actual f**k" on the inside. However, the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who played Candice Stowe from 1999 to 2005 – wouldn’t mind appearing at more red carpet events, as she recently said she believes soaps should be recognised more, because they consistently deliver "amazing storylines".
She said: "I think soaps often get a bad wrap and they deserve more credit as they are always continuing to come up with amazing storylines."
And red carpet events aren’t the only thing Nikki doesn’t like about being in the spotlight, as she also hit out at those who constantly ask actresses when they’re going to have children.
Although Nikki doesn’t mind being asked herself, she defended other stars who may be less impressed, saying: "Personally, I don’t mind being asked and I do want to be a mum one day when I’m ready.
"But in your mid-30s, you’re already aware your biological clock is ticking and for those who are desperately trying for a baby, it must be really hurtful to be constantly asked.
"Also, not everyone wants kids, so that should be respected too."
