Nick Knowles has hit No.1 on the iTunes Charts.
The ‘DIY SOS’ presenter has shot to the top spot – overtaking the likes of Pink, Jess Glynne and Lady Gaga – with an acoustic cover of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’, after talking about how his part-time music career began on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ with his fellow campmates.
The song features on Nick’s debut album ‘Every Kind Of People’ which ranked 92nd in the charts last year and the 56-year-old presenter claimed he landed the record deal after jamming on a rooftop bar in Soho, London, with Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro.
Speaking on the show, Nick – who is now being tipped as a contender for this year’s Christmas number one – said: "They won’t mind me naming them, it was Biffy Clyro."
The band – comprised of Simon Neil, James Johnston and Ben Johnston – have confirmed that they did hang out with Nick and "there might have been a guitar there" but they insist it wasn’t a "proper heavy jam session".
Speaking on Greg James’ Radio 1 Breakfast show, drummer James said: "He’s been a bit fast and loose with the truth there. It was more like eight years ago, and it was after an awards ceremony. We came back to this hotel in Soho and we’d been informed that Nick Knowles had bought us a bottle of champagne to celebrate on the roof! He was lovely, we had a drink and we left and there might have been a guitar there. He was a nice guy! I’m not gonna say anything bad about him, Mr. Nick Knowles, he was lovely."
"But I don’t think it’s quite the Kum Ba Yah situation that everyone might have in their heads. I’m really sorry to shatter the illusion that we had a proper heavy jam with Nick Knowles because that did not happen I’m afraid. It’s a half-truth. We were in the same rooftop bar at the same time, and he was very nice."
