Nicholas Lyndhurst joins new theatre show

Nicholas Lyndhurst has joined a new theatre production.
The 55-year-old actor – who is best known for playing Rodney Trotter in ‘Only Fools and Horses’ – will star alongside Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel’ at the London Coliseum from April 7 this year until May 13.
The production will follow the story of Carousel Barker Billy Bigelow (Alfie) as he falls in love with Julie Jordan (Katherine) but little do they know that their romance will end in tragedy over a decade later after they found themselves caught up in an armed robbery.
This is the first time Nicholas has returned to the West End since 2011 when he starred in Trevor Nunn’s production of ‘The Tempest’ at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
But he’s no stranger to the stage as his other credits include Allan Davis’ ‘The Straight and Narrow’ at the Wyndham’s Theatre, Peter Hall’s production of ‘The Dresser’ at the Duke of York’s Theatre and ‘The Foreigner’ by Larry Shue at the Albany Theatre.
With a impressive screen and stage career, it’s hardly surprising that Nicholas’ 16-year-old son Archie, whom he has with his wife Lucy, wants to follow in his footsteps.
He said recently: "When Archie said he wanted to be an actor, I said: ‘I can’t offer any advice other than please don’t do it.’ He said: ‘Daddy, I just want to entertain people.’ I told Lucy: ‘If I ever hear him say the f-word – ‘famous’ – the deal’s off.’ He never has."
However, Archie has since starting working on a kids TV comedy and the veteran sitcom star is shocked at how great his son is on screen.
He said: "He’s filming his second series for CBBC, ‘So Awkward’. I wish I’d been as good as him at his age. I became a different person overnight when I had my son – terrified. You could call me a helicopter parent, but now I’m learning to back off."
