Natalie Cassidy teases ‘exciting’ EastEnders anniversary plans

Natalie Cassidy says ‘EastEnders’ bosses have something "exciting" planned for the 35th anniversary of the soap.
The 36-year-old actress – who has played Sonia Fowler in ‘EastEnders’ since 1993 – has revealed there are already plans in place to mark the upcoming anniversary.
During an appearance on ‘Sunday Brunch’, Natalie was asked whether the ‘EastEnders’ team had anything exciting planned to mark the anniversary, and she replied: "Obviously. There’s a lot going on and it’s really exciting at the moment, it’s great.
"[The soap bosses] want it to be so different and something that’s a highlight, if you like, for the year – there’s a lot of planning, and a lot goes into it."
The actress also discussed her character’s ongoing storyline involving Martin Fowler.
Natalie joked that she’s started calling her on-screen character "saint Sonia".
Speaking about the current storyline, she said: "He’s getting himself into a lot of trouble, and Sonia just wants to help him. Saint Sonia I call her at the moment. There’s a lot going on – and it’s a bit spicy as well."
Meanwhile, Natalie insisted that, at present, she doesn’t have any intention of walking away from the long-running soap.
In fact, the actress admitted she’d be "very, very happy" to appear on the programme for the rest of her working life.
She explained: "It works with my life, I love all the people, I just feel very, very lucky [and] grateful to be there."
