Roger Waters told to ‘shoot himself’

Roger Waters was told to "shoot himself" by his school teacher as a child.
The Pink Floyd musician revealed his tutor confronted him in class as a youngster and told him he would never do anything valuable with his life because he was "useless".
He recalled: "I've had some measure of success and there's no question that it provides one with something of a bulwark against T.E House who was the a*shole at my grammar school who told me I was a complete f**king idiot.
"He was an English teacher and he was my form master when I was 13.
"He said I would never become anything and might as well give up and shoot myself because I was useless. He liked tidy hand-writing and a*slickers and I had neither of those attributes, so we didn't get on at all."
The 71-year-old progressive rock legend - who will release documentary film 'Roger Waters The Wall' later this year - revealed he preferred to stick to the shadows and be left alone as a teenager.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he explained: "When I was a young man, my wall manifested itself in an attitude, the image I have of myself is, if I was in this room, I'd be in one of the corners. I'd be dressed in black.
"I'd have a cigarette hanging out of the corner of my mouth and my expression would be one of f**k off, leave me alone."

Iron Maiden announce new double LP

Iron Maiden have announced their new album, 'The Book Of Souls'.
The 'Run to the Hills' hitmakers had to delay the release of the LP after frontman Bruce Dickinson discovered a cancerous tumour, although now he has been given the all-clear, the rockers are preparing for the record's launch.
Bruce said: "We're really excited about 'The Book Of Souls' and had a fantastic time creating it. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we'd done the 'Brave New World' album back in 2000 so the studio holds special memories for all of us.
"We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there! So we immediately felt at home and the ideas just started flowing. By the time we'd finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double it's going to be!"
The album - which will be released globally on September 4 - follows up their 15th studio LP 'The Final Frontier' which was released in 2010, and will be accompanied by an international tour for the band next year.
Bassist Steve Harris commented: "We approached this album in a different way to how we've recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them, I think.
"I'm very proud of 'The Book Of Souls', we all are, and we can't wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!"

Paloma Faith slates Glastonbury

Paloma Faith has slammed Glastonbury Festival.
The 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' singer has bad-mouthed the music festival, which she is due to perform at next Saturday (27.06.15), declaring it "absolutely s**t".
She moaned: "I would recommend watching it on telly at home because in all honesty it's absolutely s**t."
The 33-year-old star made the remark at her sold-out performance at Hampton Court Palace Festival in London last night (18.06.15), where she also shamed audience members for not singing along to the tracks from her debut album, 2009's 'Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?'
She ranted: "I am guessing none of you bought the first album because you didn't seem to know the songs.
"But if you do much travelling on the motorway it will be in the petrol station for 99p."
And later on in her set, she went on to berate the older members of the crowds for staying seated during her performance because she believed they should be on their feet and dancing.
She moaned: "If they put you on velvet quilted chairs, maybe I would forgive you. But I have seen them - they're the sort of chairs you bring out at Christmas when grandma comes round for a visit."

Lorde ‘forgot’ she had a career

Lorde "forgot" she had a career.
The 18-year-old musician took an extended period off from her busy life of touring and recording over Christmas and revealed she had so much fun, the fact she's an internationally renowned singer almost slipped her mind.
She said: "I had three months off. It was summer in New Zealand and I just went on all these road trips and did heaps of rock walking. I found the best dive spots, did some great fishing and saw some orca whales. It was amazing. Just lying in the ocean in front of my house and being like, 'Life!'
"It was weird, because I almost forgot I had a career, something that I filled my days with. I was like, 'Oh s**t!' because all my friends were going off to university and I was like, 'I need to figure out what I'm doing because I've been cruising for a long time ... Oh, I have something that I can do!' I had a bit of a complex because I was like, 'S**t, it's time!'"
The 'Royals' singer - who released her debut album 'Pure Heroine' in 2013 - explained her home life is different now than before she shot to fame though, as some of her friends at home can't deal with her new found fame.
She told Dazed magazine: "With any transition you do lose people, which is sad, but some people don't want to deal with what you're doing or it freaks them out a bit. So there are people I'm not as close to now, but I still roll deep with my original dudes so it's good."

Spandau Ballet LP for 2016 release

Spandau Ballet will release a new album in 2016.
The 'Gold' hitmakers have revealed they plan to put out their first LP of original material in 27 years, next year, following the release of 'Once More' in 2009 when they re-recorded tracks from their back catalogue.
Guitarist Gary Kemp said: "We did three new songs last year. The next logical step will be to make a whole album of new music. That will be next year, I'm sure."
The British new wave band - featuring Gary, Tony Hadley, Steve Norman, John Keeble and Martin Kemp - are confident their fans will be impressed with the collection, as well as future shows, because they are performing better than ever been before.
He told the Metro newspaper: "We're playing better than ever.
"I think we are making up for lost time."
Last year, the band revealed on Twitter they were working on new music with Grammy Award-winning record producer Trevor Horn, who is responsible for working on tracks including Seal's 'Kiss From a Rose'.
Confirming their new material last July, the band tweeted: "You see? Told you it was getting exciting! @SpandauBallet working with Trevor Horn! (sic)"
The message was followed shortly after with a picture of Gary in the studio, with Martin writing: "@garyjkemp smashing it in the Studio today laying down guitar on new @Spandau_Ballet tracks! (sic)"

Justin Bieber, Usher face trial in copyright case

Justin Bieber and Usher are to face trial after a $10 million copyright lawsuit was reinstated.
The 21-year-old singer and his 36-year-old mentor were accused in 2013 of copying parts of a song composed by Devin Copeland, a singer known as De Rico, and his writing partner Mareio Overton, and the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia have now revived the lawsuit, which centres on the track 'Somebody to Love'.
A federal judge previously dismissed the case, ruling the two tracks differed "significantly" in tone and lyrical content, but the appeal court have now overridden the decision.
Circuit Judge Pamela Harris wrote: "After listening to the Copeland song and the Bieber and Usher songs as wholes, we conclude that their choruses are similar enough and also significant enough that a reasonable jury could find the songs intrinsically similar."
The court also found the two versions have "almost identical rhythm and strikingly similar melody."
As well as Justin and Usher, Vivendi SA's Universal Music Publishing Group and Sony Corp's Sony/ATV Music Publishing are also named in the suit.
Devin and Mareio wrote their version of 'Somebody to Love' in 2008 and claim music scouts played it for Usher.
Justin released his song, 'Somebody to Love', in 2010, while Usher also recorded a remix and another version featured him on lead vocals with his protege as featured artist.

Florence Welch started a witch coven at school

Florence Welch's music is inspired by witches and each song is a "magic spell" to her.
The Florence and The Machine singer has admitted to founding a "witch coven" when she was in middle school and claims her fascination with witchcraft still influences her musical style.
She explained: "I think there's a kind of idea where each song is like a magic spell in order to exorcise something from yourself. There's a big theme of desire and transcendence and using the songs, almost like chants where it was to make something happen or break something; you wanted something out of you or you want to get something into you.
"So, I've always been attracted to that kind of imagery. The first bands I went to see live and the first things I was interested in had this kind of shamanic energy and this idea that it wasn't just a drink it was a kind of exorcism. And so I think being surrounded by those things kind of draws you into these kind of themes."
The 28-year-old star says that when she takes to the stage, she sees her performances as "small" exorcisms and misses them when she's not touring.
She told the blog Noisey: "Every performance is kind of like a small exorcism, or I definitely use them as such. So, I think that's why I had such a strange time when I took a break off because that connection was very important to me as a way to understand myself."
Florence also confessed to trying to put spells on boys she fancied at school with the help of her coven.
She recalled: "Me and my two friends made these spell books where we'd try to do spells on our classmates. One time, I tried to make one of my classmates fall in love with me so me and my coven put his name in a bottle, and the rule was that there had to be a drop of blood and... well, I don't know if it ever worked [laughs]."

Mark Ronson has a ‘spinning disco ball’ in his head

Mark Ronson lives with a "spinning disco ball" inside his head.
The 'Uptown Funk' hitmaker revealed decades of being a DJ and writing some of the most recognised beats in the charts has made it hard for him to switch off.
He said: "Having spent 20 years of my life DJing, it is sometimes hard to shut off the spinning disco ball in my head."
The 39-year-old producer has collaborated with acts including Adele, Lily Allen, Kasabian and Bruno Mars during his career, but confessed Amy Winehouse, who passed away at the age of 27 in 2011 "was special".
Speaking about what it was like to work with the musical icon, he explained: "I was inspired by her and the music she wanted to make. I wanted to impress her.
"The thunderbolt strikes the head, the pen scribbles furiously, and that's the song. When she wrote, there was no editing. It came out like, this is the truth and this is how it's gonna stay.
"Even Adele writes with other people. Amy was special."
However, the star - who wed model Joséphine de La Baume in 2011 - said he was given a new lease of life when his recent single 'Uptown Funk' topped charts around the world.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "I feel ('Uptown Funk') has given me a renewed lease on making music. From whatever I'd one on Amy's stuff, I definitely felt that window had closed behind me. To have a massive success seven years down the line, now no one can count you out."

Tinie Tempah approves of Lewis Hamilton’s music

Tinie Tempah thinks Lewis Hamilton's music is "really good".
The 26-year-old rapper has revealed he is a fan of the Formula One racer's music, admitting he was surprised at how good the star's sound is.
He said: "I heard one of his songs when I was in LA recording two weeks ago. He played me one of his songs and it's actually really good, I'm not going to lie to you."
The 'Not Letting Go' hitmaker continued to say he didn't expect the 30-year-old sportsman's track to sound like it did, and is now keen for him to release the music to see what the public thinks.
Speaking to UTV's Total Access, Tinie added: "It doesn't even sound like Lewis Hamilton. It's really, really good. It's interesting. I'm curious to see how people will react to it.
"At first I was a little bit apprehensive. But after I heard the record, I was like, yeah, why do we put people into boxes?
"Like, if you're an actor, don't you dare do a song, or if you're Arnold Schwarzenegger don't run for Governor of California."
Lewis originally began recording music in a home studio he built for his ex-girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger, but has since worked with producer Rodney Jenkins, who has previously created hits for Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
However, he recently hinted he has no plans to release any of his music because he wants to concentrate on his driving career.
When asked about whether he will be putting out: "I ... I don't really know. I just like doing it. I mean, if a song I did was good enough for someone to want to sing it, that'd be awesome. To be known as a writer, would be ... pretty awesome. But I'm going to try and get that third world championship and that takes priority."
