MTV is launching a new reality show that will see mermaids date fish-loving men.
The channel have decided to jump on the dating series bandwagon following the success of ‘Love Island’ last year, but they’ve decided to mix things up a bit by focusing on women who believe they’re mythical creatures and pairing them up with fisherman.
A source told The Sun Online: "These women really do see themselves as mermaids. Finding someone to love and understand them can prove difficult day to day."
The show, which is called ‘Mermaids’, will have a similar format to ‘Ex on the Beach’ as the long-tailed ladies will be seen by their potential suitors splashing around in the sea.
The insider explained: "This new MTV show is like ‘Love Island’ but with a big twist – these mermaids are first seen by their potential lovers swimming in the sea with their tails before emerging onto land for a series of dates."
The first episode – expected to be around 30 minutes long – of ‘Mermaids’ has already been shot in a beautiful beach cove in Thailand and will hit screens later this year.
The source said: "The first episode has been shot on a beautiful beach in Thailand which makes for a spectacular backdrop for the mermaids to seduce their suitors.
"MTV is already reaping the rewards of ‘Ex On The Beach’ and TV bosses are hoping this show will appeal to those viewers when it hits screens later this year."
There have been a huge influx in dating shows over the past few years but one of the most successful and memorable is last year’s series of ‘Love Island’ as it catapulted the careers of Kem Cetinay, Chris Hughes, Olivia Attwood and Montana Brown.
