Moya Brady joins Hollyoaks

Moya Brady has joined ‘Hollyoaks’ as Goldie McQueen’s mother.
The ‘Shameless’ star will make her debut on the soap as Breda McQueen in Monday’s (25.06.18) E4 episode, which will see her telling her daughter – played by Chelsee Healey – to give her long-lost convict brother Sylvester ‘Sylver’ McQueen (David Tag) a place to live when he is released from prison.
Moya said: "Breda McQueen is Goldie and Sylver’s mother, and a cousin of Myra’s. She is a Super Nanny by trade, and arrives in ‘Hollyoaks’ to bring her branch of the family closer together. Especially as her son will be released from prison soon.
"Breda has been working hard at her career as a Super Nanny, and has kept close to where Sylver has been incarcerated, just to be near him for comfort and guidance."
The 55-year-old actress counts herself as "very lucky" to have Chelsee and David to work alongside on the soap, and admits their presence on set ensures she is at the "top" of her game.
She said: "They are two very hard working, clever and sharp actors. I feel I have to be on the top of my game, I’m very lucky to have these two beauties as my on-screen offspring!"
While ‘Oaks’ fans will start to think Breda prefers Sylver to Goldie when she first appears in the village, Moya insists that is not the case.
She added: "I think most people would presume she favours Sylver over Goldie. This is certainly not true, and you can see her love for Goldie when she becomes more settled in the village.
"Breda comes from the firm but fair school of motherhood. She’s like a tigress for her kids.
"I think she is [a stereotypical McQueen], in the sense that she is a strong and colourful individual, who doesn’t have a lot of fear for authority. However, Breda pretty much ploughs her own furrow, and is very much her own person."
Sylver will arrive in the village soon looking for a fresh start after serving time for bumping off his abusive step-father, and he will turn to Goldie to put him up.
