Monaco’s Princess Stephanie credits her adopted elephants

Monaco’s Princess Stephanie believes her rescue elephants came into her life "at the right time."

The 50-year-old royal adopted Baby, 42, and Nepal, 43, two years ago after they were condemned to be euthanised following a possible exposure to tuberculosis and has credited them for teaching her "so much" about herself.

Speaking in France’s Point de Vue magazine, she said: "When I tell you that Baby and Nepal arrived at the right moment in my life, I firmly believe it. They have taught me so much about myself. I’m no longer the same."

The two retired circus elephants, who were living in a zoo in France, now reside at Fontbonne Reserve in France on top of a mountain overlooking Monaco, just 15 minutes away.

She added: "I take care of the elephants and also of the property, which belongs to my brother, Prince Albert II. I love this place. This space is truly soothing, so serene."

The brunette beauty – the daughter of Grace Kelly – cared for the Asian elephants every day after they arrived.

She explained: "After watching them I slowly began to recognise signs which showed that a true trust, mutual respect, was settling in between us.

"This requires a lot of patience. Asian elephants have always worked with people and they like company. We sensed right away that Baby and Nepal demanded contact."
